The #EuroVelo 17 ( #ViaRhôna ) South of Lyon, especially between #Lyon and #Givors , is still a nightmere. Some small #cycling path segments have recently be added, and are not yet mapped on #OSM , but on other parts you follow muddy ways or you ride in heavy car traffic with considerable elevation gain. Why do the public authorities still not fix it after so many years?
#Eurovelo is awesome, have been on short sections of EV1 and EV6 on holiday.
Long distance protected bike paths are a really big tourist draw and something the UK is lacking.
Day 14: started slow in one of the places that serve breakfast that’s more than coffee:) Then followed the (mostly sadly concrete lined) Mincio river up North, until we spotted the first German pensioners on ebikes since hundreds of kilometers. We also passed by the first “forest” since forever, but it was closed due to storm damages. Saw the first hills, beyond which we arrived to Peschiera del Garda.
Day 13: by the time the Po dykes were getting really boring, after a few kilometers of near-death experience (standard Italian highway traffic) we turned off to the Mincio river, which is also tightly constrained between dykes (bike path on top) but smaller and nicer. We had the first (not) “closed” road, starting with champagne gravel, degrading to rough gravel, then dirt, then grass, and finally a singletrack in the woods.
Day 5: cycling around the lagoons of Grado and Marano, not seeing much water actually. The landscape is pleasantly uninteresting with impeccable cycling infrastructure, we only had to ride a few km in traffic, the rest was very good (often brand new) bike path and champagne gravel. Saw very few cyclists.
Day 4 (yesterday): took a 20min train ride to escape Trieste and started riding from Monfalcone. The cycling route follows the dykes, sometimes on top of them. The long awaited moment of spotting flamingos feeding in the lagoons also arrived! Good bike paths, almost no traffic. Everyone else is a German pensioner on ebike. Stayed at a camp site in Grado right by the beach.

Der Donauradweg (EV6) wäre noch um einiges schöner, wenn er nicht immer wieder über längere Strecken an der doch recht vielbefahrenen Bundesstraße entlangführen würde. Taking to the road next week to cycle #Eurovelo 1 from #Belfast to #Sligo. As well as the route shown if the weather behaves a little I’m going to add loops of the Sperrins, Inishowen & Boa island (I want to see the ‘Janus’ statues. if it’s glorious I might even head back to a couple of favourite wild camping spots
I intend to finish the two other ‘missing’ sections of #EV1 in Ireland over the summer so that in the winter I can create a full set of videos of every part

The "Living Forest" created by the Ecosphere e.V. is a place maintained by an open group of supporters. Once it will be a forestgarden with many eatable plants. Also workshops and cultural events are happening there. It is located at the regional bike path "Fröhliche Landpartie", between #Eurovelo 2 and #emsradweg.
Ab dem 2. Mai 2026 startet die #Shelter-#Mitmachbaustelle beim Hofprojekt "Ecosphere" nahe Rietberg. @DurableAce @herbert_tiemens I use it only to download the GPX file to OSMand~. OSMand~ does the route and the GPX shows the official #eurovelo path as additional layer.
@herbert_tiemens I don't use the route planner. RideWithGPS is my route planning software of choice. I do have the #Eurovelo app for general information about the routes.
