  1. Just finished a short checklist + advice for classroom #teachers (in USA #k12 #MiddleSchool or #HighSchool) to use with #EnglishLearner #NewComers.

Checklist of most common information that helps decide just how much support a student might need, plus advice on what support to include.

Will put it on my site eventually, but for now, sharing on Google Drive is fastest.

  2. Super busy this #AdultESOL term, but end is in sight. Final writing test for weekend class done today (now just have to grade 20 papers!), final grammar exam for weekday class is this coming Thursday.

Of course, still have #k12 day job - oh, lovely, the SAT is this Wednesday. I should probably also plan my reading class for this week. And check the #EnglishLearner testing calendar for this week.

I want a #Nnedi (AI agent from my short story) -like helper, please and thank you. Sooner = gooder.

  3. Full day #k12 #ProfessionalDevelopment today about #HispanicHeritage and #FamilyEngagement, mostly as they relate to supporting #EnglishLearner / #EMEB / #EL students and their families.

Was excellent, but tiring. Going to sleep well tonight.

  4. Started an email list for #k12 #teachers in #Ohio who have questions about supporting their #EnglishLearner students. The list is "Ohio_ESOL".

Really, any teacher working with English Learner students is welcome.

  5. Subbed for the last #AdultESOL class of the term yesterday. Went okay. Great students. Kind of wish I could teach the course.

Now working on some #ProfessionalDevelopment for a content area teachers at a school that experienced an influx of newcomer #EnglishLearner students. I love working with teachers to help them support their #EMEB students.

#AI is going to be a bit of a topic in my presentation. So much that #ChatGPT (and similar) can do to help teachers differentiate.

  6. Have to study more for #español test tomorrow.

Over 220 vocabulary words in about 5 weeks, plus grammar, verb conjugations, etc.

That's about 44 words per week. Sounds like a lot (and it is), but many #EMEB / #EnglishLearner students get that many vocabulary words every day or two, many of them academic words. Plus, you know, the grammar stuff as well.

Many USA #k12 content #Teachers need more #TESOL training.

Or, they could join the #Spanish class I'm in. Get the experience.
