  1. SATA/SAS disk naming in #Linux really is kinda stupid, isn't it?

This mainboard has 2x SATA + 2x SAS (with a to 4x SATA splitter cable attached each).

How does the system choose to name the drives?

/dev/sda is 1 of one of the SAS ports.
/dev/sdb, sdc, sdd, sde are the 4 drives from the OTHER SAS port.
/dev/sdf, sdg, sdh are the remaining three of the first SAS port.

    Why?!?

  2. T-40h until my disks are full and until then I need to have found a solution (Need about 10TB of additional usable storage).

    Either:
    * By then I need to have bought and received multiple ≥5TB disks (it's a LVM-RAID5, so 2-3 additional ≥5TB drives)
    * Create a 2nd LVM with 1TB (or 4TB) disks and do silly things with overlays
    * find something better.

  4. #HELP
This is after freeing up space for our next video project. We need a DAS (direct-attached storage) solution for Alli and me.

    Any Tips?

  5. For all americans that are looking for privacy-friendlier smartphones:

We've got a Murena Fairphone 4, and it is very good, had no problems so far.

    It can be bought here:

If you like, Retoot, there might be a lot of people that would want to share as little data as possible at the moment.

  7. Does anyone know of something like WinDirStat (ie something to visualise where disk space is being used) but aimed at more server use?

    For example, perhaps produce a web page or something? #devops #zfs #truenas #homelab #datahorder

  8. So, I found this video randomly on YouTube and it sparked my inner anti-social paramilitary paranoid...

Extra internet points if anyone gets the actual reference.

  11. When I look at backup solutions on Linux, there really isn't a whole lot you can get that actually have a GUI or one that's decently designed is simple and has everything you expect to have in software designed for backups. Some don't even support B2 backups, or is just entirely CLI.

Before I use to use Duplicati, and Duplicity, but those backup solutions wasn't working out, because it would constantly fail to backup for the most stupidest reasons for B2 Backups despite configured correctly, as well as constantly corrupting the database files, and support on both is actually terrible for both, it also operated as a Web GUI AND it uses Electron, so you be running a mini-web server on Chromium.

Restic seemed like a better alternative to what I was using, though quite limited, there does seem to be different GUIs for Restic, but not all of them are the same or have every feature you need for backups for organizing backups. The app I'm using is an AppImage, it's not perfect solution and it can't be auto-started after login to run silently in the background like any other system process. But I did come across this article here on how to setup a reliable and automatic backup which I will be trying out.

  12. I hit #400 untitled .reason documents today. I don't know why that feels like some sort of milestone. the first untitled one (#3) is from 2011. I'm not sure why I save anything, I never go back to it.
