Kenne ich auch - hatte ich 1989 als ich als einer der ersten im PC eine #Soundblaster Karte hatte (und vorher hatte ich mir einen #Covox-Stecker selbstgebaut), und ich prophezeit habe, das in 1-2 Jahren die meisten PCs eine Soundkarte haben werden. Alle so: "So ein Quatsch, brauch niemand." 😂

Не так давно в среде спектрумистов в очередной раз была поднята тема про Covox. Как «старый спектрумист» формально понимаю, о чём речь, но вот железного устройства у меня, ни когда не было. В моём городе на точках продажи оно не прижилось, а для самостоятельного интереса на тот момент не было необходимого понимания и знания. Поиск информации выдал значительное количество разных схем и прочих технических вещей, но к моему большому удивлению, нигде не было описания для обывателя «что это такое и с чём его едят». Считаю, что стоит восполнить этот пробел. Статья была опубликована в 2021 году в 29 номере журнала по ZX Spectrum'у "ЗаRulem Печатное Слово" . Статья написана в соавторстве с Вадимом Чертковым.

DOSBox Staging Basics
Today: Emulation of parallel port DAC models

Those familiar with DOSBox know that these three devices are emulated with the universal 'disney=true' setting.

Like 'sbtype', we wanted the model of LPT DAC to be configurable, so we deprecated the 'disney' setting in favour of 'lpt_dac' that takes any of the following:

- 'disney' for the Disney Sound Source
- 'covox' for the Covox Speech Thing
- 'ston1' for the Stereo-on-1 DAC device
- 'none' to disable the DAC (default)

This is paired with a corresponding filter setting, 'lpt_dac_filter', which approximates how the original device sounded.
This means that the Disney Sound Source (which included a little speaker inside it) will sound a lot like you might remember.

Like the other audio filters settings, the 'lpt_dac_filter' can be toggled on, off, or customised.
