Got the KS rewards for the Cloud Empress (a Nausicaa-inspired ecological fantasy game based on the Mothership Panic Engine system) expansion Land of the Living/Land of the Dead. It even came with a beautiful box that I can use to store the original game’s zines and pamphlets!

Just ran another one shot of Cloud Empress using the Last Voyage of the Bean Barge adventure. Second time running it. First time in face to face. Still fun.
I'm enjoying the game so much I bought all of the other adventures and settings for the game.
I'm thinking of running a mini-campaign later this summer.

Cloud Empress, to its credit, provides attractive fillable character sheets.
However, I wasn't 100% happy with how they formatted the fillable fields, so I've made my own slightly modified versions.

I recently picked up a physical copy of Cloud Empress, an “ecological science fantasy” RPG from watt. It uses the same ruleset as the popular sci-fi game Mothership
The setting is a magic-poisoned world, with floating cities over a green, but dangerous landscape. This world is threatened by occasional outbreaks of giant magical cicadas, called the Imago, which feast on the bones of dead, and are the source of chalk, the substance that both poisons the land and powers the magic of the setting.
The 58-page book is well designed, with lots of interesting line art giving a nice sense of the world.
It’s inexplicably free to download.
Character Sheet
Cloud Empress has its own character sheet, so I won’t be making my own custom version. The official version is attractive and well-designed. It comes in a color & black-and-white version.
However, I wasn’t 100% happy with how the fillable fields were implemented, so I’ve made my own modified version of the official Cloud Empress character sheets. Here are the changes I made to the fields:
- The stat numbers are now in a Serif Gothic font to match the book formatting and are centered to look a little nicer.
- The job condition and notes boxes are now set to wrap text.
- Fixed a small bug in the Skills check boxes.
- I’ve added the ability to import an image into the portrait frame in the center of the sheet. Just click in the center.
The B&W version wasn’t fillable, so I’ve made it fillable as well. The color version has an off-white background that might be difficult to print, so I’ve made a version without the parchment-colored background.
I’ve added these to my ever-growing swarm of character sheets.

Next on my To Read list is Cloud Empress. I really liked this one too (I probably am not going to post about things I don't like).
So far just the rulebook.
I really like it, despite only vaguely remembering the work that inspired it. It is definitely not "cozy", the setting is fairly melancholy and post-apocalyptic, and "ecological" in the sense that nature is large and scary and powerful and you have to find a way to live around it.

Finally managed to read #CloudEmpress and it's incredible. I already loved Mothership for its elegant system and the way it supports the genre it draws inspiration from, and this game gets all the best parts from it and translates to a beautiful setting that is much more than "off brand Nausicäa".
It feels fresh, inspired, and thoroughly enjoyable.
I am going to run it as soon as we finish the current #BitD adventure. -

@Tim_Eagon @jarvis LOL, I did back that one, but the $120 USD tier was way too rich for my blood. I mean, big delta from the previous level of $35, amirite? As to Mothership, the one I am most excited about, other than 1e, is #CloudEmpress
