„The [AMOC] collapse time is estimated between 2037-2064 (10-90% CI) with a mean of 2050 and the probability of an AMOC collapse before the year 2050 is estimated to be 59 ± 17%“
Even if it was „only“ 5% probable it would mean we need to do everything to prevent it. With these probability percentages and near-present possible timeframes… where are we heading?

XR Nijmegen has protested yesterday at the citiy council meeting against plans to grant energy firm ENGIE to construct a new gas power plant at the outskirts of the city. ENGIE says the plant will be powered with so called green hydrogen.
While green hydrogen is a highly inefficient energy storage medium as such, the power plant can be used with fossil gas (often euphemistically called 'natural' gas) as well. Activists fear that this a greenwashing scheme of ENGIE that allows to construct yet new fossil fuelled infrastructure in the midst of the looming #climatecatastophy.#nijmegen #xr #extinctionrebellion #climate #climatecris #ClimateEmegency #nederland #netherlands @extinctionrebellionnl

Brigitte Wear and Vatan Hüzeir in the Q&A session after their amazing talks today at our symposium on "mapping fossil ties" at #Wageningen University.
Maybe Vatans talk will be made publically available soon - I keep you posted!
After their talks the rougjly 60 participants were distributed to workshops on how to gain critical information on the influence of the fossil lobby on universities, e.g. by freedom of information acts📄.
