  1. The northernmost storm cell in #RVA has weakened and moved off towards Ashland; the southernmost cell is still going strong from Rockwood to Pocahontas State Park to Chesterfield Courthouse

  2. (Sorry, just got home! Catching up on the storms now…)

Two cells are producing hail and damaging winds from western Chesterfield to western Henrico (near Short Pump), moving east towards the northside of #RVA and towards Chester, respectively.

  3. “the Richmond metropolitan statistical area — a region defined by the U.S. Census Bureau as the city and 16 surrounding localities — “had the second largest increase in housing costs relative to young adults’ wages” after the Charlottesville region. Both have gotten influxes of new residents from the Washington, D.C. area and more high-cost parts of the Northeast.” #cville #RVA #housing #inequality richmonder.org/data-housing-is

  4. I get that Ellwood’s hasn’t been locally owned in a while but there’s something especially heinous about them now being taken over by the owner of a data center. richmonder.org/ellwood-thompso

  5. Just drove back into Chesterfield from downtown #RVA and the torrential rain was UNREAL. Careful if you have to venture into Chesterfield tonight, visibility is very poor.

  6. Also seeing really strong winds of 50-70 mph in Nottoway approaching Blackstone and Kenbridge. #VAwx

So far #RVA is in this dry gap between these two clusters of storms so no worries for Richmond yet.

  7. A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for #RVA and surrounding counties including Chesterfield, Powhatan, Goochland, Hanover, Henrico, New Kent, Charles City, Dinwiddie….south to Emporia

Super severe thunderstorm over Lake Monticello and Palmyra with wind gusts to 80 mph and hail over an inch moving southeast into Goochland; other severe storms approaching Farmville and Charlotte Courthouse #VAwx

  8. Trip Report: Malvern Hill Battlefield

I took a little bike ride on Saturday and typed up a few thoughts about it. Check it out if you're into bikes or Civil War history.

  9. I find myself at the Watermelon Festival in #RVA today.

    #Virginia

  10. Just got home from a lovely time walking around the Watermelon Festival in Carytown! Oh the number of booths I could've easily spent money at, lol! But I behaved myself. I did pick up this neat shirt though! #RVA

  11. A bit hotter today around #RVA and south-central #Virginia, in the mid 90s, a smidge cooler further north and west; storm chances look slim, mostly south of Charlottesville and southwest of Richmond. #VAwx

  12. Might see some early storms sneak into far northwest #Virginia if they survive the trek over the mountains (Winchester, Martinsburg, Hagerstown); otherwise, models are split on whether we see another round of storms this afternoon from D.C. to #RVA. So I’m leaving a 40% chance in for those areas this afternoon/evening. #VAwx #MDwx

  13. The Richmond DSA Eco-Socialism working group has a meeting coming up this coming Wednesday (the 12th), at 8pm to discuss a campaign to oppose the Dominion/NextEra merger. The meeting will be virtual but I'll post a link here if anyone wants to attend. The next in-person meeting will be the 26th, 6pm at the Ginter Park Library. #RVA

  14. Another hot and humid one today, with scattered late day storms, mostly across the western Piedmont but a few could reach the I-95 corridor. We’re returning to a more typical summer pattern….temperatures holding steady in the low to mid 90s with maybe a 20-30% chance of late day storms. #VAwx #MDwx #DCwx #RVA

  15. Very busy on radar with multiple flash flood warnings in effect around the Richmond area as a broad area of heavy showers moves slowly north. #vawx #rva

  16. So @caseyliss what are the odds we’ll have a @marcoarment sighting in #RVA

  17. Flash flood warning for Chesterfield County south of Hull Street/Rt. 360 for a very slow moving thunderstorm from Hopewell to Iron Bridge and the Chesterfield Airport; this storm is moving slowly northward towards the southside of #RVA with heavy rain; careful if you have to pass that way this morning, could be some water ponding on roads in that area.

  18. Head's up #RVA, Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan will be holding a #ClimateChange town hall meeting tomorrow evening, 6pm at the Science Museum of #Virginia on Broad Street! Myself and @climatechangemakersrva will be there!

  19. Hey, does anyone in the #RVA area want some tradescantia cuttings? I have out of control mats of the stuff at the moment.

  20. According to the most recent drought monitor map, #RVA and Petersburg and Tappahannock have been downgraded from moderate drought to abnormally dry while the western half of #Virginia still remains in moderate to severe drought. But, more rains are on the way late Sunday through Tuesday and should help.
