Happy belated #Brewday 😂 #homebrewing

#Brewday had to be postponed because of supply chain issues. But now we're set. Albeit with a greatly reduced brew team. #homebrewing

So, next Saturday is #Brewday and I'm gonna try to push the output of our brew kit. The kettle has a volume of 30 liters and so far we have used recipes for 30l of total mash water, usually ending up with ~23l of post-boil wort.
But we had good results with keeping the strike water a little lower and using more sparge water, which in the end means we never really maxed out the kettle capacity. Therefore we're gonna try to hit ~28l of wort next time. #homebrewing

And it's #Brewday. We're doing the same "Bavarian IPA" like half a year ago, to test if we can get a consistent result. If we do, we might use the recipe as basis for another attempt at a milkshake IPA.

So, the #beer is in the fermentation fridge. We endend up with 21l with a gravity of 1.048 - overall a little bit below the amount and gravity we were shooting for, but within the range of what we consider a success. If we get proper fermentation this time (🤞) we should end up with something nice. It should at least be hoppy (see picture).
@trekkie3k and I will finish our beers, clean up and that will be a wrap for this #brewday.

The recipe says this will be a short mash. Let's see what the iodine tells us.

Let's prepare for today's #brewday. Here is the grain.

Some pics from yesterday's #homebrew #brewday. Currently fermenting 11.5 L of 1.045 OG Czech Lager wort and carefully watching progress with #HomeAssistant thanks to my new TiltBridge.

Draining wort into the Moscato wine pomace for this winey blonde ale. Loads of Hallertauer Blanc at the end of boil. Gonna ferment with Escarpment/Lallemand Pomona yeast and see what happens.

Milling the grain for my brew day today. Brewing an IPA (rare for me) and a Moscato pomace blonde ale.

Time to celebrate the #BrewDay with a special #cocktail that's only available on such days. The Hot Scotchy is made by mixing scotch with fresh wort (unfermented #beer). Ratio is up to you, here I've got about 5:1 wort to scotch.
Some people claim this creates an approximation of what your finished beer will taste like, but I've never found that to be true. It's especially untrue when you use sweet wort (wort before hops are added to it) which is what I'm drinking here.

I went up to get some lunch and left the second runnings draining. After making some food I told my wife I'd better get back and make sure nothing is overflowing... Something was.

Wild yeasties are all happy this morning and ready for the brew day! Hive came from my bee hive (comb, honey and bees). GrandDad came from juniper berries my wife snagged at Granddad's Bluff in LaCrosse, WI. The unlabeled is my 'abbey' culture that originally I caught from my neighbor's raw honey back in 2013.
I'll be brewing a Honey Tripel (thanks to all who voted in the poll!) for the abbey, and Saison for the two new recruits.

Another #brewday done. 35l of IPA in the fermenters, and everything cleaned and tidied away.

It’s one of those “I want to brew something but don’t have a specific plan so I’ll use up some of the random leftovers sitting around and make a pale ale” kinda brew days.

First #homebrew #brewday in way too long. Today I'm #homebrewing a Belgian Witbier, half of which I'll infuse with #homegrown raspberries. It's my Xmas beer.

Finally a #brewday. It's been 2 years, 9 months, 23 days since I've last brewed a #beer. I'm ready to get back into #homebrewing
