  1. If I had a dollar for every performative, jingoistic, pro-Black race and gender essentialist who, lacking honest self-awareness, has purity tested the authenticity of my Blackness and femininity, exactly like Europeans besotted with the drug of whiteness, I'd be materially wealthy, and as intellectually and ethically bankrupt as my critics.

You do know, former NYC Mayor Eric Adams is, or was, pro-Black, so there obviously are many expressions of what it can mean to be pro-Black, and like the cults of #BlackCapitalism and the #ProsperityGospel, not all of them are demonstrably healthy.

I loved this latest hot take by brother #FDSignifier: “Pro Black” ain't enough no more.

  6. Really enjoying @venusroots podcast, particularly this episode with @platanomics in which they unpack #blackcapitalism

  7. As I repeatedly say, striving for a higher seat at the table of a structurally unjust system, diversity among the ruling class, is not progress, it is a bribe!

  8. I've tried the startup game and ran about as far into the growth segment of the capitalist American machine as most any Black American.

What I found was racist to the core.

When I say they don't want to deal us in, it's not hypothetical or hyperbolic.

I've pitched the VCs, I've chilled with the Black economic elite.

Black Capitalism via the free markets does not exist.

    DEI, never existed either.

The free markets will not deal us in

  9. The racial wealth gap is one of the most important and measurable indicators of Americas racial disparities and progress to address racism.

While I think it's great that people focus on things like DEI and education about history imo one of the MOST effective solutions remains #reparations.

I like the way he explained the scale of the problem 👇🏿

It really questions if tax break and market dynamics alone can close this gap.

  10. @toolbear This discussion around how the statue of #HenriettaLacks isn't a substitution for the #reparations owed to Lacks family actually makes me think of a training on #RacialCapitalism I attended with Francisco Pérez ( @Platanomics on other platforms), Executive Director of the Center for Popular Economics.

Perez made a compelling argument that although symbolic victories aren't a substitution for reparations, they can be really important for increasing awareness and shaping #policy interventions that get us towards the goal of systemic and economic repair

He also has a great series on the limits of #BlackCapitalism

Curious to hear from #BlackMastodon and #BlackTwitter what their take is on whether #representation has a place and how it can be leveraged to produce systemic policy change
