The question I have is: What’s the final straw for people/businesses/orgs using meta platforms still? Businesses across the board still rely on it for reach, or at least instagram in particular, and I still imagine they’ll cling onto it despite the dwindling numbers and lack of defined alternatives.
It’s insane on how many occasions restaurants and organizations still route people to their instagram for updated news and information — despite the inability to navigate the page without an account.
WhatsApp also still dominates for messaging in many countries.

When I was a kid and people talked about propaganda, I remember thinking how people who "fell for it" must be dumb or ignorant. Today I see propaganda everywhere.
I see it when my mother-in-laws thinks that people are celebrating in the street, cheering on Israel and the US liberating Iran from its tyrannical regime.
I see it in Canadian media which demonizes conflates Israel with Jews, and at every opportunity discusses what happens in Israel in only the most negative terms.
I see it right wing American media, which creates an artificial bubble of misinformation and distrust in facts and reality.
I see it in left wing American media, which hammers the same message onto people about identity over policy, and framing anyone with criticism of their conclusions as enemies to be reviled.
I no longer think that people who fall for propaganda as dumb or ignorant, but I don't know how to help people see different perspectives either.

In reporting from last month the WA Post via public records requests verified that ICE & CBP are waging an intentional media war.
DHS cops frequently work hand in hand with media production teams. Sometimes even with requests for the production of social media content coming down the chain of command to field agents.
So in short, its no mistake that CBP cop Jon Ross seemed to manufacture a murder for Twitter and IG views.

Quick #PSA reminder that a lot of #news sources (even on Fedi) which seem like they're going to inform you are more just #propoganda made to sensationalize, to either make you afraid or angry or make you feel superior or powerful. You are not immune to this propoganda, and I know I've been sucked into it before, because it includes...
1) People posting "shocking" developments where #Ukraine has "wiped out" Russian invaders, and "#Putin is on his last leg!" If just 1% of these were accurate, the war would have ended last year and Russia would be back on track to rebuilding its democracy.
2) People posting "beginning of the end" type stuff about either #Trump going after people or people defeating Trump. If 1% of these were accurate, either Trump would not be president, or we would all be dead by now.
Not everything is a game changer.
Don't get sucked in.
Be involved, be aware, but don't let the #politics people take control of your mind 24/7. You have better things to think about.
