  1. 🇬🇧 below French

🇬🇧 I'm still alive. No need to worry.

But it’s unbelievable how busy I've been since early 2025, especially with K9s since we adopted 2 basset puppies (litter brothers) last April, with one puppy very timid plus attached to and dependent on the other, reason for which we adopted both. We could just not separate them.

Fastforward: Jan 2026 & 2 days ago, Pitou (one of the pups) had his right front paw realigned by an orthopedic surgeon, because the paw had become malformed due to abornal bone growth in that paw, during his development.

Etc. etc. What a year that 2025 and also the beginning of 2026

And although I think I'm all set with Medicare I had enough Medicare setup headaches in 2025 to see me out... Very stressful time for me given my need for medical care and medications. Plus I lost my healthcare a month early (before Medicare) so had to buy on the private market for one month. This was costly, plus the private insurance we had to add to our Medicare plan is also very costly. But we cannot be without it.

But here I switch to a prettier topic: flowers!

Photo: In the midst of that amazing time when #BirdsOfParadise bloom all over the place. This is from my driveway though the flowers are in his porch cochère, which is adjacent.

The indigenous use of bird of paradise feathers.

If I remember correctly, a typical tribal gathering requires feathers from 3,000 birds...

  3. For Birds-of-Paradise, Being Hot Is Not Enough to Win a Mate, They Must Also Have The Moves

"For birds-of-paradise, physical and vocal traits and behaviors evolve together, which is contrary to what we think we are seeing for most songbirds."

  4. A recent study reveals that 37 out of 45 birds-of-paradise species exhibit biofluorescence, absorbing UV or blue light and emitting it as vibrant colors. This phenomenon enhances males' courtship displays and may serve as camouflage for females. Nature's wonders never cease to amaze!

"an organism absorbs light, transforms it, and emits it as a different color... This phenomenon is especially prominent in males, focused on their bright plumage and skin in areas that are highlighted during displays: the inner mouth and bill, feet, and feathers on the head, neck, and belly... pigments in the #birds’ eyes align with the #fluorescence peaks"

  14. Irises are my favorite but birds of paradise have a fond place in my heart. I tried something new with color mixing while drawing (painting?) these guys. I must say I'm pleased with how it turned out. #ProcreateWatercolor #ProcreateArt #BirdsOfParadise

  15. 'Peanut' and 'Coco' Blue and Yellow Macaws at Banham Zoo, Norfolk, UK
The first time I saw them back in June, I just put my camera down and watched in disbelief at the synchronicity of their flying together. I returned a week later and took this photo and a few others. 📸😉

  20. Any #Theatre fans here?

We saw “Don’t Make Tea” recently by #BirdsOfParadise theatre company. It’s going to have some online showings if anyone is interested. It’s a dark #Comedy highlighting much of what is wrong with our #Benefits system.

    Quote:
“If you are capable of killing and disposing of a body, can you really call yourself disabled?”
