On my Thursday walk to the shops there were four swamp hens grazing on the greenery near the path. Always a pleasure to see.

Walking back from Bibina to a bus stop, we came across this lovely bunch of birds around a storm water channel. Right next to the very busy Hillsborough Road.
"Birds of a feather", etc.

Northwards, from the bus:
• swans swimming in the bay on the lake
• 2 pelicans loafing on lampposts
• 1 pelican standing on a lamppostSouthwards, walking:
• 1 pelican standing on a lamppost, scratching
• 1 pelican loafing on a lamppost
• 1 white-bellied sea eagle circling -

The Southern Emu-Wren made it to the second round of Bird of the Year and so it got my vote again! I was very tempted by the majestic Bin Chicken, though...

Who else is voting in the Aus Bird of the Year Competition? I voted today for the Southern Emu-Wren (and nominated it for the competition!).

Always look in the stormwater drains. This great egret (white heron as we call it) stepped out of the drain under the Five Island Bridge to hunt in the water flowing into the lake.
Always look up too, especially at lamp posts next to water. Maybe don't stand under them though.

Going to work at the University of Sydney is incredible. Here, a Kookaburra, fiercely and proudly looking at its nearby nest (a hollow in a tree of Victoria Park, two minutes from my building). #USyd #OwnPic #BirdsofOz
