Northshore Congestion

I had the chance recently to visit the Oahu's Northshore. I drove out from Honolulu hoping to get a chance to see the famed Banzai Pipeline.
The wind was blowing from the wrong direction for the Pipeline to form. We grabbed a lunch and ended up on Haleiwa Ali Beach.
Some of the best surfers in the world were there.

Or maybe in this case, Air Rider. Either way, this surfer, and many others, out on Oahu's Northshore was simply amazing.
The waves were large and the action was non-stop. At times, 3 or 4 surfers trying for the same wave.

"They found the P/C Sandpiper yacht taking on water in 20ft seas, meaning the height of a wave from the previous trough could be as much as 40ft, Clark said.

Walton, who only recently graduated from the coast guard rescue swimmer program, was lowered from the helicopter by a cable. Labonte climbed onto the stern and prepared to enter the water just as a huge wave slammed the craft, throwing him into the surf. The wave struck so violently that the vessel rolled completely and wound up floating upright."
