  1. Erwin Chemerinsky the Dean at #BerkeleyLaw explains the historical & rhetorical significance of #FreeSpeech on the 60th Anniversary of the campus #FreeSpeechMovement.

Ironically #Chemerinsky has become embroiled in a #FreeSpeech predicament with #StudentProtesters in support of #Palestine who emerged at an event at his home, where his wife physically confronted a female #CampusRadical student using a microphone. Dean Chemerinsky has since editorialized that "Our home is not a forum for free speech."

  2. #BerkeleyLaw Dean, a long time #Constitutional scholar, and #FreeSpeech advocate has joined a #SCOTUS brief saying #DJT is #Ineligible to be #President and should be excluded from #ballot over role in #January6th #insurrection

#Chemerinsky doubts though that conservative justices appointed by Trump will follow
Section 3 of the 14th Amendment that provides: “No person shall ... hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any state, who, having previously taken an oath...shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof."

Her compilation is now available on the library’s website, with regular updates to reflect the latest developments, and she’s working on an #ai research guide for students. #lawfedi #LawSchool #LawLibrary

  7. It was great to return to Berkeley to talk to law school students and to attend the 27th Annual BTLJ-BCLT Symposium to learn more about the EU's Digital Services Act. The organizers did a fantastic job in setting up the event. @berkeleylaw #DigitalServicesAct #DSA #BerkeleyLaw

  8. Unleash the deep sea robots? A quandary as EV makers hunt for metals

“Auto companies don’t want EV batteries associated with more destruction than they already have been,” said Ethan Elkind, director of the climate program at UC Berkeley’s Center for Law, Energy and the Environment. “There has already been a lot of negative publicity around the mining for these metals: human rights abuses, child labor, deaths from mines collapsing. You can imagine the risk with the deep sea. If ecological damage of these sensitive undersea areas comes to light after mining begins, they don’t want to be a part of it.”

  9. From tort law to cheating, what is ChatGPT’s future in higher education?

It passed the bar exam, first with a mediocre score and then with a ranking among the top tier of newly minted lawyers. It scored better than 90% of SAT takers. It nearly aced the verbal section of the GRE — though it has room for improvement with AP Composition.

What's next? As one Berkeley Law professor summed up the task for his class: Try to “beat it.”
