  3. I think the BC Hydro meter here is indicating the charging lot is currently drawing 513KW! Which would be about right for 5 cars! #YYJ #bcferry #boats #travel #nanaimo #gabriola #family

  4. went on a boat to see a man about a boat and an espresso maker that is like a family heirloom 😆 (my dad is selling his live aboard and I got a text that it might be now or never so now it is!😂 )

  5. This was a cold, rainy ferry ride. Because I get motion sick, I spent most of my time on deck anyway, going inside for short periods to warm up. This is heading from Vancouver Island towards the mainland. Out of the grey, this magical pink appeared. :)

  6. Maybe I am just out of the #BCFerry loop and they've been doing this for awhile but I don't remember seeing the Queen of Alberni on the Horseshoe Bay to Departure Bay route this year.

I haven't taken it on that run probably since before Duke Point terminal was built in the 90s! The DP run has always been Alberni’s main haunt.

Filling in for another vessel during the summer months maybe? while the two larger Coastal vessels do the DP route.

Anyway... I am sure I'm the only one who cares. lol.

  7. #CanadaInfrastructureBank is lending $75 million to #BritishColumbia's #ferry service to help buy four #ZeroEmission vessels & install electric charging infrastructure.

A statement from the federal #CrownCorporation says it has closed a deal with #BCFerry Services as the company expands the #electrification of its fleet.

It says terminal upgrades are to be completed by 2027 and the battery electric ferries will be used on small-volume & shorter routes.

  8. “Down deep we all hug something. The great forest hugs its silence. The sea and the air hug the spilled cries of sea-birds. The forest hugs only silence; its birds and even its beasts are mute.

On the Ferry from Vancouver to Victoria, British Columbia

I am travelling via BC Ferries from Vancouver (Tsawwassen) to Victoria (Swartz Bay) on a cool day with overhead clouds and a stiff breeze. Being a passenger on BC Ferries is an adventure! From the moment I step on board, I am embarking on a journey filled with breathtaking views, fresh sea air, and the excitement of exploration. The diverse routes offered by BC Ferries provide travelers with a unique and unforgettable experience, connecting coastal communities and offering a glimpse of the stunning natural landscapes that British Columbia has to offer.

Advocates for the Coastal Environment and Communities

BC Ferries is not just a transportation provider; it is also an advocate for the coastal environment and the communities it serves. With 25 routes throughout the west coast of BC, BC Ferries plays a crucial role in supporting and connecting coastal communities. These routes provide essential transportation links for both passengers and vehicles, contributing to the connectivity and accessibility of the region.

In 1960, operations began with just two ferries servicing a single route. Since then, BC Ferries has expanded significantly, with 37 ferries now transporting over 22 million passengers and 8 million vehicles annually. This growth reflects the increasing demand for reliable marine transportation and the vital role BC Ferries plays in facilitating travel and connectivity along the coastal region.

Exploring Beacon Hill Park: A Tribute to Emily Carr

My visit to Victoria is to connect with the spirit of Emily Carr. Beacon Hill Park is the perfect setting to connect with the natural landscapes that inspired her art,

Beacon Hill Park, Victoria British Columbia in Spring

Beacon Hill Park, with its lush greenery, vibrant flora, and tranquil ponds, serves as a fitting setting to connect with the spirit of Emily Carr. This iconic park not only provides a delightful respite but also echoes the very essence of the natural landscapes that Emily Carr so passionately depicted in her artwork. From majestic totem poles to the captivating presence of local wildlife, Beacon Hill Park offers a glimpse into the essence of British Columbia’s natural wonders.

“I think that one’s art is a growth inside one. I do not think one can explain growth. It is silent and subtle. One does not keep digging up a plant to see how it grows.”

  9. Back in the day when I was 2yrs out of high school and decided to backpack in Australia/NZ for a winter, I made the trip off the Island and to a friend's house in Vancouver only to realize I left my passport behind at a friend's house on the other side of the water in Nanaimo.

Today was not dissimilar. We got 20min of the way to the ferry only to discover I forgot our bag with all our documents.

After a bit of panic and wrangling and a kind assist from family bringing the bag part way, we tried to make it, but to no avail. 10min past time.

Luckily the 8:20AM ferry was the early option. The 10:40 will still get us to downtown Vancouver by 1:30PM in time for our 2:40PM 🇪🇸 appointment.

So instead we had breakfast at a local diner, went for a short walk at a park near my work, and now we're finally at the ferry. ⛴️

And best of all, they still honoured our prepaid walk on tickets so we didn't lose $80.

    It all works out. 😊

    Boat time. :)

  10. Booked the BC Ferry trip. Added in my own (in green) little CO2 emissions counter with the hope that the Ferry Gods will see this and apply the same transparency to all receipts. :)
