My #BangleJS2 #smartwatch finally broke. Before that I used #PineTime. Here in the UK, both are now really tough to buy or way higher in price than what I can ideally afford. I have used these primarily so I'd get notifications when I'm needed by my partner, who I care for. Des que el #banglejs2 va morir a Croàcia el passat Setembre per sobredosi d'aigua salada, porto usant el #Versa4 que em negava a vendre tot i no usar-lo.
Aquesta última creació de #Fitbit havia de ser la polla, amb una pantalla puta mare i una qualitat de les notificacions molt bona. Vist el que feia el #Versa3, havia de ser el rellotge definitiu. Però just abans de distribuir-lo Google va comprar Fitbit i es va trobar amb una competència directa al seu Smartwatch, i el va obligar al capar. Ni apps, ni re de re. Et passa les notificacions del mòbil i ja. Una merda de llosa al canell que no val el que pagues. Una castanya. Un martiri.
Vaig pillar-me el Bangle i tot i ser el rellotge nerd per excel·lència (t'ho pots fer tot tu, però pocs fem re), és d'una qualitat final d'usuari molt menor, però té aquells punts clau que el fan una meravella. I un d'ells ha estat sempre la pantalla e-ink, que tot i ser de molt més baixa qualitat, l'usabilitat del "sempre encès" i bateria de setmana i mitja, el fa un rellotge de puta mare.
Al morir a Croàcia, torno a usar el Versa. Quina guapada de pantalla, però haver d'apretar sempre el botó perquè el twist de canell no va (o va a mitja nit amb les nenes dormint i FUA, toma lluminària!) em tornava boig. Fins els collons estic del puto Versa. I ara Google em tanca la sessió de la App perquè encara no he canviat la conta a una de les seves. Em té fregit.
Doncs res, a la merda tot. Que m'he fet un auto-regal de Nadal i ja torno a tenir Bangle. Dolça espartana funcionalitat humana.

I guess I should not try to do signal analysis on smartwatch... but it is more fun that way. It even has built-in fft function. #banglejs2.

It seems #horse gait estimation on smartwatch is doable. #banglejs2 even includes FFT function in C. Unlike GPS, it does seem not drain battery in 8-or-so hours processing accelerometer data.

- First person dungeon crawl, swipe the screen to move or turn, tap to attack, hold press to defend.
- Flash cards to review vocabulary words.
- Racing game where you tilt your watch left and right and avoid obstacles.
- Cookie clicker
- Literally just tamagatchi, or one of those old digivice digimon, or the FF8 chocobo world game
- Recipe program? Swipe to see steps? :P
- Make your phone start "ringing" by tapping the watch screen, pretend you have a call.

@jiska Not sure what your requirements are, but #banglejs2 smartwatch are pretty nice in their category. (256KB RAM). And then there's AsteroidOS.

@thomholwerda #banglejs2 has ~3 weeks battery life, and it runs free software. Always-on screen, but no solar panels. Which watch is this?

@pancake That's not my understanding, but you can provide current to vibration motor and it produces sound. #banglejs2 :-)

@pancake I compared colors against those on my monitor. Not great, but better than trying to get rgb data from webcam.
And yes, speaker would be nice. I believe wifi is too powerhungry. LilyGo t-watch has esp32 (wifi), but that's really different hardware.
You are aware that #banglejs2 can produce (quiet) sound, right? :-). -
Trying to use webcam + cheese + gimp for colorimetry... did not work well. #banglejs2

#banglejs2 can support #GPS, #Beidou, #Glonass, and I was able to get a fix using Beidou only. More toys to play with, I guess. Sources are here: https://github.com/espruino/BangleApps/pull/3674
I'd like watch to tell me "if you stay here, you'll get GNSS fix in 2 minutes". Is there a way to estimate that from satellite positions and signal strengths? Perhaps someone has useful research paper? -

I'm back to the blue switches and #banglejs2, updated from 2v19 to 2v24, there are a bunch of good performance and stability improvements and it's still the best hackable smartwatch for me. I'll find some time later this week to cook a new firmware for my #sensorwatch and fix the wristband, or maybe sew a new nylon https://www.espruino.com/ChangeLog

wait, I wanted to try something else.
There is an option to toggle High MTU, that makes the transfers faster but it's not fully supported from all devices. I've disconnected it.
I've retried to update the firmware and yes, it's slower, and the freezing event happened earlier.
... which made me think: What if it's actually the #banglejs2 disconnecting after some time? Is there any kind of timing? I then went through the settings and I could only find the LCD Timeout set to
10s. I set it to0sand tried one more time to update the firmware tov2.20.... and it worked!Unbeilable!
So actually, the LCD timeout setting makes the transfer to crash.
Then I reactivated the High MTU setting and tried to update the firmware to the
v2.21, and worked again!So that's it, I can suggest a theory that the LCD timeout screen can interrupt a large file transfer between the #banglejs2 and the phone.
End of line.

Last try I did, as I don't have time to invest on this anymore:
I've activated the debug into the screen. Then I've removed some apps, completely blindly as I can't see the space left and so on, re-connected the Android with the #banglejs2 and tried to update the firmware to the
v2.20. It freezes again in the same position.Just before that
uploading Firmware...message, a log notification appeared that was to small and too fast for my eyes to read.Whatever. It will stay like this a bit more.

So I long pressed the watch button, restarted and apparently everything is fine.
App Manager reconnected to the #banglejs2 and tells me the expected versions (
v2.19for the Firmware andv2.20for the DFU).I try to update the firmware again to
v2.21and again freezes at around 20%.I suspect that it can't upload the whole package. I don't know how to check if I have enough space, or how could I clean some storage to help. Or even if it's anything else.
Now I'm left alone to just tinker around and try to get it by myself.

I had the awesome idea to update the DFU from
v2.19tov2.20and apparently it uploaded good... but now is showingFlashing DFU...forever and I don't know if I should leave it a while or interact like long-pressing the watch button.The App Manager in Android tells me that the DFU is updated, but it could easily be that it keeps a record from previous interactions, and it's not really communicating with the #banglejs2

My #banglejs2 hangs up during the firmware update from my current
v2.19to bothv2.20andv2.21.Behaviour is always the same: click on
Updatefrom the Firmware Update app, starts downloading, the watch changes toUploading Firmwareand a progress bar, and it just freezes in any point around the 20%.I can only abort by long-pressing the watch button and exit from the App Manager in my #Android.

Per fi he pogut trastejar uns dies amb el #banglejs2, i crec que pot ser un digne successor del #Pebble. Ha costat una mica que vagi suau, suposo que calia asseure's i repassar totes les funcions.
Amb el #Versa4 pensava millorar tant, però el moviment corporativista de Google protegint el seu #Pixel i deixant-me sense apps de tercers no em va barrufar gens, i menys per la pasta que costa, i m'he cansat d'esperar. El vendré.
Quan torni a tenir una estona per programar hi jugaré.
