Televised debates are so ‘american’ and do not make or break an electoral campaign. That these had an impact, perhaps, maybe, but would that impact affect outcomes? Overall I think not, maybe in very marginal seats depending on the electorate demographics.

What caught my attention in this Conversation article was the ‘reach’ of the four television channel, and particularly that of SkyNews. Given all of the caveats the author explores in the piece these figures should be taken with a grain of salt and care exercised in the analysis. But, with these caveats and warning applicable to all the channels in the table equally, one can discern that SKyNews has had a very small reach compared to the others. This warms my heart because it points to the eventual demise of the #Murdoch media empire and its diminishing influence in Australian politics.

Someone please explain why Lambie would be fighting for her senate seat against a One Nation candidate? I mean how could an electorate who put Lambie in the Senate even contemplate voting for a racist party of nutjobs. Okay, okay, Lambie can sound like a nutjob at time, most times, but she’s no racist. So what’s this vote all about? I just don’t get it.

If economic management is your yardstick for evaluating a candidate govt… look no further. Here are the graphs, figures (ABS supplied) and arguments that you need. Spoiler alert: you shouldn’t vote for the #LNP.

A guide for those who did not vote early and are keen to partaking in democracy sausages.
Be careful how you vote on the Senate ballot. Be informed and do us all a favour. After that, let it rip…

@Alpha1Nine
If truth be told, it can all be done where it not for our govt lack of electoral will, fear of lacklustre economic performance and the backlash from the big end of town. -
Dutton's equivalent in Canada lost his own seat in the election.
Let's hope the same happens to the PotatoFuhrer!

#Dutton is a policy lightweight and incapable of holding high office. He appears to ride the political tides based on the nameplate sitting on his desk rather than actually displaying the nous to do the job, any job. His lack of advanced education and a failure to learn on-the-job are at the source of his lacklustre performance. He came to head the party due to the bluster he managed to serve up in the party room, much as a copper will stroll up to a car window and asks the driver if they know what they’ve done before delivering a holier-than-thou pedestrian lecture. It is patently clear that the LNP has lost its way sometime back in the Abbott days and hasn’t been able to change course. So much for the ‘back on track’ moniker.

When the rubber hits the road, as it does on the hustings, the LNP shows up as the portmanteau for a third grade comedy troupe looking for a venue. There is a whole generation of ‘liberal’ politicians (using the terms very loosely) and National Party hangers-on which needs to retire before the IND who will get voted in have the means and opportunity to rebuild a Liberal value in Australian politics.

The #LNP are a bunch of dimwits, the jury’s in.Have to admit… I’ve switched off News on the box as of last week. I know how I’ll vote and listening to BS is more than I can take atm. I have more important things to get on with. I’ll tune in again on Election night to toast victory or get pissed in stoic disappointment.

These are the candidates running in my electorate.
Four candidates from what I call ‘crazies’ parties
Four Independents I would lump as progressive #Libs
Two in the #National Party box
Three standing for #progressive social policies
(I’ll let you guess which candidate I’ve pidgeon holed in the above boxes)3 out of 13 says all there is to say about politics in regional Australia. We just gotta do better folks or we’ll be voting idiots in forever.
Summary is I can only vote for three of them with conviction. The remainder will all have to fight for the last place on my ballot (the Libertarian ONLEY is running favourite for that honour)
Let’d get it over with… #AusElection25

I live in the seat of Page. Our current MP is Kevin Hogan who is also the shadow trade minister, meaning if the LNP wins he will be the guy handling all of these trade issues with the US.
Page also has Casino, the beef capital of Australia. The LNP want to sidle up to the US but this leaves a conflict of interest - does he side with his electorate and protect the beef industry (which has been a focus of Trump's), or does he side with his party and screw us over?
Interestingly, Labor have a candidate in the area called Wendy Backhaus but I can't find any information on her. The ALP site has a list of all candidates: https://alp.org.au/our-people/our-people/ and the seat of Page isn't listed. I would have thought given the global issues right now and who the opposition is here that they might make an effort.
Does anyone have a way to ask Labor if they plan on doing anything in this seat?

‘Bile of racism’ and anti-migrant rhetoric spilling into political debate, race discrimination commissioner warns.
Comment: Targetting migrants is a classic fascists tactic.

Ring the ALARM Bells…. #Privatisation of public transport infrastructure ensures a decline in services and early retirement of infrastructure assets due to cuts made in order to produce profit for investors. Private enterprise strip the assets bare and then put their greedy little hands out for govt #subsidies to get them out of presumed financial trouble (no one is looking at their deep pockets full of stolen $$ here). It has always been so, it will always be so… what’s so hard to understand here? It plain old #StateTheft. Your tax money going straight into private pockets. After, God I don’t know, one hundred years, govt still make the stupidest decisions and hand over public assets for ‘stripping’ by grifter mates…
Come on Aussies. Don’t vote those fuckers in again… Jezzzz…

Given, as the article suggests, the electoral importance for a govt to be ‘seen’ to address the #CostOfLiving issue, why is it that Labor’s efforts to do just that (constrained by the need to contain inflation - resulting in not hand outs but selective easing policies) are consistently overlooked and under-reported? Because, surely, the #Labor govt is not blind to the fact that cost of living is one of the tropes erroneously used by the #coalition to bagger Labor. It’s not helped by blatant #Dutton lies given air in #CorporateMedia outlets. Just as the widely believed lie that Labor govts are inherently bad economic managers, happily propagated by right wing media and right wing political parties. Consequently, the electorate is largely blind to progressive social policies and economic measures enacted since the 2022 elections.
Wouldn’t Australia be better served by unbaised reporting on govt performance vis a vis previous govt? All fact-checked and contextualised in accordance with prevailing economic challenges?
Very little of this kind of reporting (certainly none by major outlets) is available. And not a great deal of reliable and informative independent media reporting (or what little there is of it) is currently available is in fact accessed by any sizeable (electorally meaningful) portion of the electorate. My last ray of hope for a fairer, more inclusive, more equitable and progressive society lies with GenZ and Millennials at #AusElection25.
As for Australia’s degenerative racism… the pox on all racists in all their houses.

After shredding #PotatoHead ‘s performance as an ‘alternative PM’, Joe Dyer, in The Shot, concludes his piece with a logical assertion:
“Australia isn’t the US and a general election is no referendum. When called to demonstrate his credentials as an alternative Prime Minister, Dutton will need more than fanboy copycatting, cynical posturing and the flimsiest of policy fig-leaves.”
I couldn’t agree more. Here is hoping the #AustralianElectorate see it that way as well.

If this is true, then Labor should win by a landslide. But then, we have compromised journalism to deal with, so it’s all up in the air for #AusElection25. -
#JamesPaterson actually knows better than he is letting on. He is fully aware that the #Chinese flotilla is doing nothing more than #Australian #warship regurlarly do in international waters off the coast of #China and both do so within the rules of International Laws of the Sea.
All of which fully displays the hypocracy and the devious political shenanigans played by the #LNP . What bothers me is that a large part of the Australian electorate believe this shit. I am counting on the younger generations, with cooler heads and a modicum of intelligence to realise what political games are being played by the #Opposition and vote accordingly come #AusElection25
