  1. Beyond the first thoughts on forming a #CommunityIndependents party. #auspol #ausVotes

So far the discussion seems to involve the answer: Yes, No, or Maybe. The weekend saw good articles in #TheSaturdayPaper (Karen Barlow) and Canberra Times (Jack Waterford). The discussion has emphasised post election funding distributed by AEC.

Not really covered so far are: Reps v. Senate, party candidate selection, and the different view from encumbency. (1/3)

  6. I'm really tired of the misleading conversations, especially between journalists and politicians, that would lead anyone to believe political parties decide where your preferences (in the lower house) are distributed.

This is not true and utterly bullshit. These "preferences" they're discussing are the little pieces of paper they try to stick in your hand as you walk into the polling place.

Only you decide where your preferences go as you list them by numbering in sequence all lower house candidates.

I just wish these fuckwits would make this clear especially for new voters.

Without a doubt ! We’ve sold off so many key assets—energy, property, hospitals, infrastructure—that foreign capital now holds us hostage. Successive governments, especially since Howard, have prioritised pleasing global investors over national interest. The result? Policy paralysis and a public priced out of their own country.

  31. The #Bradfield recount is complete, with the independent Nicolette Boele defeating the Liberals' Gisele Kapterian by 26 votes.

Formal declaration to take place tomorrow, at which point the federal election will be officially complete (though there is still the possibility of a court challenge).

Labor and One Nation both gain seats at the expense of the Coalition. But Labor will be able to pass legislation with either Coalition or Greens support.
