  1. Unsolved mysteries:

The "Q" key on my #Acer #AspireOne ZG5 doesn't work. It never worked, from day one. I've replaced the keyboard, and it still doesn't work. Every other key seems to work. It's just the Q key that has no response! Even when pressed in conjunction with other keys.

If it were the key or membrane, replacing the keyboard would fix it. If it were a motherboard trace or socket issue, you'd think other keys would be broken, too.

    Vexing!

  3. I've got Acer Aspire One 725 (umpcportal.com/products/Acer/A) off the shelf, bumped it with 6GB RAM and 60GB SSD instead of stock 500GB HDD and I'm installing Gentoo on it.

I feel like it is going to be a nice video player and a notepad:)

It feels like I'm compiling the kernel on a teapot though;)

  4. OMG, someone is trying to sell an #AspireOne (1.6Ghz single core, 1GB RAM) running #Windows7!
    trademe.co.nz/computers/laptop

Those things barely run XP, there's no way it would be usable with 7. The only way I kept mine running was to replace the HDD with an SSD and put #Trisquel on it.

  5. @claudiom that #NomadBSD looks like an interesting way to try out #BSD :)
I wonder if the old #AspireOne is powerful enough. :)

  6. @trechnex
so, my daily driver atm basically is my #Xiaomi #MiA1 phone, and since recently my wife's old #Asus #AspireOne netbook, that in general feels slower than my phone... but it's keyboard and screen are (barely) better for coding.

That all combined with a remote #Linux VPS, to which I can #SSH into for when I need some more raw processing power.

So, yeah, not sure what to vote.
Where is the boundary between what is a computer and what isn't?
    Is a phone + keyboard+mouse+screen one?

    Here's the #Nordic #keyboardLayout of the #AspireOne #D255E #netbook for reference:

Also, since it's a Nordic rather than just Norwegian layout, it also means that the coloured coded alternatives differ based on which layout you choose in your OS, in this case I have to look for the dark red ones as the unmodified layer.

  8. Ehh, not the #EEEPC, but the a bit-less-old #AspireOne. I keep mixing them up...

  9. @Siiw
hmm, looks like the #EEEPC 900 series used #DDR2, while this #AspireOne uses #SODIMM #DDR3, so I guess that's out of the question. Maybe I can find some cheap RAM sticks on #Finn instead. :)
Though with hardware prices here in northern #Norway, even for #used #secondHand, it's probably not worth it.

  10. I was hoping to do some #coding / #writing tonight, but @Siiw's #Acer #AspireOne #D255E that I was hoping to do for it, is a bit too slow to do so while it's also doing over a year of #Windows10 updates in the background…

Want to do a full system backup eventually and then see if I can dualboot it with some kind of lightweight #Linux distribution.

Maybe also see if some of the hardware from her old #EEEPC can be salvaged and used to upgrade this thing, like the #SSD and #RAM.
