Flugmodus im Telefon aktiviert (auf Steinplatte geworfen) und zum ersten Mal seit deutlich über 10 Jahren das Display gesplittert.
Ist jetzt nicht die größte Katastrophe, das #MiA1 war eh ziemlich alt, aber der zweite Glasbruch (Blumenvase) in wenigen Stunden ist schon statistisch auffällig. -

Ich hab Ende März/Anfang April ein #MinimalPhone #MP01 erhalten und seitdem ununterbrochen als mein Hauptgerät verwendet.
Es war eine Zumutung.
Jetzt keine dramatisch schlimmere als jeden Text auf Touchscreen-Tastaturen tippen zu müssen oder im Sommer auf LCD-Displays draußen lesen zu wollen, aber trotzdem eine Zumutung.
Das ist schade.
Es hätte so viel Potential. Und die Hardware ist nicht mal annähernd das Hauptproblem!
Aber jetzt in der dunkleren Jahreszeit, wenn die Vorteile des Displays deutlich geringer wiegen als die Nachteile, wechsle ich doch eindeutig wieder auf ein "klassisches" #Smartphone zurück.
Das ist in meinem Fall mein maueraltes Xiaomi #MiA1, was mindestens ähnlich viele Nachteile hat… (und das eigentlich schon mindestens 3x von einem neuen Gerät in meinem Besitz ersetzt wurde) evtl. muss ich mal irgendwann was taugliches besorgen. Leider ist der Markt geflutet mit Schrott und taugliche Geräte sind sehr rar. -

(Das Milestone hing ewig auf Android 2.2/2.3 fest und es gab lange gar keinen Upgrade-Pfad und das P880 war eine ewige Schleife von "neue Costum-Rom ausprobieren" und "ne, die ist auch scheiße")

Der Hauptgrund gerade war, dass ich diese Woche tatsächlich 1-2x nicht 100% sicher war dass meine Frau mich gerade anruft (es gab eine zweite Möglichkeit) und ich im Hirn die Telefonnummer parsen musste.

Ehefrau hat ne #Alpha7 von Arbeit mitgebracht - Ich sag mal so: es ist ne Weile her dass ich das letzte Mal dachte meine #Alpha6000 wäre eine relativ kompakte Kamera.
Ebenfalls im Bild: #RX100VI (wirklich kompakt), Xiaomi #MiA1 (generisches Smartphone) und #RunCam3 (Platzhalter für kompakte Actioncams)

Hab heute glaube zum ersten Mal die Frontkamera meines #MiA1 verwendet…
Die Erwartungen waren gering.
Ich war trotzdem entsetzt WIE mies die Bilder werden.
(Jaja, sekundäre Kammera eines billigst-Gerätes von 2017 - schon klar. Aber warum überhaupt einbauen wenn nicht annähernd verwendbar? Ah… um die Checkbox zu füllen… klar.)

WTF?
Ich dachte das wäre inzwischen branchenweit überall Standard für's schnelle Pairing?
Ist mir nicht gleich aufgefallen, weil ich momentan wieder das #MiA1 als primäres Gerät verwende, welches das ebenfalls (sein Hauptnachteil) nicht mitbringt.
Aber das ist so eine unfassbar sinnvolle und billige Funktion… verstehe nicht warum das fehlt.

Stellte gestern fest dass ich wohl seit Wochen telefonisch nicht auf'm Privattelefon (#MiA1, #LineageOS) erreichbar war.
Habe dann gestern Abend testweise "4G-Anrufe" deaktiviert.
positive Nachricht: ich konnte gerade verifizieren dass es wieder geht
negative Nachricht: ich hab wohl mit aktivem Display in der Hosentasche gerade den #Notruf gewählt?
Übrigens: Die Notrufzentrale ruft zurück wenn man nur kurz anklingelt und auflegt. Ist ja auch sinnvoll.

War vor 6,5 Jahren ein Impulskauf mit "mein Nexus hat sich selbst zerstört? Mal wieder was ganz billiges kaufen! Wie schlimm kann es werden mit #AndroidOne?"
Neupreis $200 damals und noch immer sinnvolle Softwareupdates (also per #LineageOS/#Tissot)

@dwagenk ja, sollte da wirklich rauskommen dass das als "Müll" in meinen Privatbestand übergeht, dann werde ich schon irgendwas damit anfangen können
wollte z.B. schon länger mal wieder ein "richtiges" Linux auf sonem Telefon haben
Oder ich ergänze/ersetze mein #MiA1 als HomeAssistant-Dashboard-Dings?
Wobei letzteres echt noch problemlos und gut tut? Und da ist momentan Lineage drauf, was wunderbar Updates erhält… hmm…

Ich habe 3 Geräte die mit #HomeAssistant kommunizieren und beliebige #IR-Signale versenden können.
* ein Tasmota-IR-Blaster
* ein proprietärer, mit TuYa-Software, der auch bissl Funk kann
* mein Xiaomi #MiA1 (siehe auch
https://f-droid.org/packages/us.spotco.ir_remote/ mit dem das jetzt auch auf #LineageOS endlich geht - aber nicht via HA natürlich)Leider gibt es keine Möglichkeit Signale meiner Geräte für auch nur 2 davon zu synchronisieren. Alles muss man überall getrennt einstellen und triggern.

@mort ich hab mir jetzt "einfach" ein TuYa-Gerät hingeworfen dass beliebige IR/RF-Dinge lernen/ansprechen kann und das an #HomeAssistant angeknüppert
Ist noch etwas arg frickelig das TuYa-Zeugs ohne China-Cloud zum Laufen zu bekommen und vermutlich will man das eh eher in opensource-Hardware (ja, existiert fertig - muss man "nur" selbst in ein Gehäuse stecken und flashen)
Jedenfalls dient das alte #MiA1 was bei mir Haus-Fernbedienung ist theoretisch auch als Steuerung für ALLES.

Yes, I like that I still can get current OS builds for my old/cheap #MiA1.
But having to download ~700MB twice a month for #updates sounds utterly broken.
#Android update mechanism is one of these broken things that sacrifices lots of time, bandwith and remaining storage lifetime… instead of doing propper diffs.

@raphaelmorgan I don't use it a lot, but it still amazes me that my laptop has a touch screen. 😅
It's a friend's old work laptop I got, so it certainly isn't new either.
And after having struggled for years with charging my old #MiA1 phone because its charging port kept going to hell (I needed to use hairbands to push the microUSB plug in tightly enough, and no, it wasn't fluff in the port; I suspect something the battery or something else kept overloading something in the charger board, because days to weeks or a month after replacing the charger board several times, it kept developing the same charging issue...), I was amazed how my current phone can be charged in 30-60 minutes.😂 -

Mal #LineageOS 19 auf's #MiA1 geworfen - wird ja eh nicht mehr verwendet, kann man 'mit rumspielen!
Tut bisher sehr erträglich.
Ist jetzt nur etwas deprimierend dass das abgelegte Gerät neuere Software verwendet als das #FP3 das es ersetzte.

Hab mein altes #MiA1 mit #AndroidOne ausgegraben - einziges Telefon jemals, das mehrere Jahre nachdem es von mir ersetzt wurde, noch immer benutzbar läuft.

@kelbot using my #Xiaomi #MiA1 for size comparison (which is 155.4 x 75.8 mm) as I don't have any measuring tape handy, I think it would stick out slightly at the top, but otherwise would fit quite well.
I doubt @mntmn's latest device will fit my limited budget, but otherwise I'd probably hop right on it. :)

I desperately need a new #mobilePhone as my current one (a #Xiaomi #MiA1) was bought way back in 2018 or so, and is showing its age (slow, apps don't stay in memory, and tomorrow I'll be replacing the charging board for the third or fourth time...).
I'm currently looking at either the Xiaomi #RedmiNote10Pro or the #RedmiNote11S for about 2200 NOK from a European webshop that doesn't take ages on shipping.

with the 10 Pro's pros include having a Snapdragon instead of MediaTek chipset, higher Antutu score, better screen, more durable glass and better macro lens.
Its cons however include being a tad bigger, and perhaps more importantly: being older (March 2021 vs January 2022) than the 11S (and thus likely will have less updates remaining), which could be an issue with how I tend to use my phones beyond their support date...I've also read some disturbing hardware and software, and bloatware issues, and I'm not sure how much of that is due to negative feedback bias, and dodgy early Android releases that should perhaps have stayed beta for longer...
I've yet to do a similar hw/sw issues research for the 11S though, so perhaps that will have similar issues reported.I'm also not sure how much I'll actually like #MiUI, as my previous Xiaomi was an #AndroidOne device, and thus had 3 major updates worth of stock #Android... from what I've heard the Xiaomi of that period can't quite be compared to the current one...
None of the phones I've looked at for the past 1-2 years have really stood out for me, but I also think I'm running out of time on my current one... ugh, I hate being forced to replace hardware due to hardware and software degradation...

Ah, yes, of course the charging port on my #MiA1 that I only recently replaced, is again having issues. Slight touch will make it stop charging again.
At least for now it's still charging at full speed, so I can hopefully keep the amount of time it's plugg :boost_no: ed in, at a minimum; at least till it inevitably wears down again to the point I have to apply hackish ways of keeping it charging.These repeated setbacks are really starting to wear me down...

@lj_writes I've had a #SamsungNote3 for a while. It wasn't really my choice of phone, but it was a decent replacement for the earlier mentioned phone with broken touch screen, which became available after my dad, the previous owner, passed away.
I found it rather bloated with software that couldn't be removed, its OTA updates were lacking, and the battery that went bad as well as weird brown/yellow banding at the bottom of the screen were why I replaced it with my current #Xiaomi #MiA1.

I haven't had any other #Xiaomi phones, so I can't speak for the support of their own MiUI OS interface. AFAIK Xiaomi devices are well-supported by the #xdaDev community though: https://forum.xda-developers.com/xiaomiAs my #MiA1 is still working fine (*knocks on wood*), I haven't needed to look at a new phone, but it would probably be another Xiaomi, and I might even their #Redmi or #RedmiNote models if they don't have an interesting #AndroidOne model at that time.
