  2. Samsung is adding native App Lock in One UI 9.5. Pixel devices with Canary builds already has this feature.

One UI 9.5 is most likely built on top of internal QPR2 source codes. So you won't see it anytime soon on Galaxy devices. One UI 8.5 stable rollout started in June 2026 (except S26 series which already got it in February) as compared to QPR2 stable release on Pixels in December 2025.

  4. Android Canary brings native app lock, will it make it to One UI 9.0?

Android 17 has been officially released last month, which brought faster multitasking, improved creator tools, and security-related enhancements, to both increase your productivity and to enhance your user experience. However, the native app lock, which allows you to lock apps with your screen lock, didn’t make it to Android 17 as it was never promised for this version of Android, but it’s still in the experimental canary builds.

This replaces third-party application lockers with a native implementation of the app locking functionality, ensuring a seamless experience when you’re protecting your apps from intruders. The app locker introduced in Android experimental builds is completely native, eliminating the need of a third-party application locker.

To lock an app, hold on an app that you want to lock, then set a password for it. The app, therefore, should be locked behind a password each time you access it.

Here comes the question. Will native app locking make it to One UI 9.0? Or will it be saved for the next versions of One UI and/or Android?

Currently, there is no clear answer as to when the native app locking functionality will be actually introduced to Android and/or One UI, but the feature being available on experimental canary builds of Android suggests that the feature is getting ready.

We’ll let you know if the native app locking functionality eventually makes it to Android.

  7. draft - in iOS 18, does locking an app freeze it as well? like, apps that do tracking and stuff like that, that we have to have running most of the time, but sometimes we as humans deserve a break from big brother, 1984, orwell etc...
