"The world has radically changed over the past four-plus decades. Unions haven’t. Or at least they haven’t changed nearly enough to match what they’re up against. In this context, unionizing Amazon – iconic in status and fanatically anti-union – stands as a definitive challenge for this generation of trade unionists. The catch-22 is that while unionizing Amazon holds out the promise of renewing labour, bringing Amazon to heel demands an already revived labour movement in place.
The only way around this lies in moving to transform labour through the process of unionizing Amazon. With the first strike of Amazon (December 19 to 24, 2024, seven locations in the US) now behind us, it seems especially important to have the widest discussions about its outcome and relationship to reviving labour. What went right in the strike? What went wrong? What might we collectively learn and incorporate for ‘next time’?"

On the recent Amazon strike:
"How extensive was the impact on production? In my reporting for In These Times, I was able to answer the question: some dips in volume, but not enough to exact a cost on Amazon’s promise of timely delivery. These walkouts did reveal new leaders and stiffen the spines of existing ones, though."

What's the best way to support this strike? Not purchase from Amazon to show solidarity? Or specifically buy from Amazon to make sure they feel the pressure of the withheld labor?
I feel like the answer is "don't buy", which I'm already doing, but as far as I could see the press release doesn't say anything specific about how to show solidarity and support and help.

I ordered something on Amazon a few days ago (after failing to find a similar item in local brick-and-mortar and other online venues). It arrived Wednesday, and proved not to be quite what I wanted. I did a return order, and I can get my money back by bringing it to any Whole Foods and showing a QR code.
If I bring this thing in to get a refund, is that crossing the picket line, or breaking Buy Nothing Day?
