In practice when you do #selfHosting you can name subscription price that's reasonable based on your own labor costs
The VPS provider advertises for 'port 25 outbound being blocked'.

Damn, just found out that my VPS hosting can't even do port 25 *incoming* (I knew already they can't/won't do outgoing, but I've got a workaround for that).
Any suggestions on how I can work around the blocked port 25 (SMTP) incoming, while still doing email self-hosting?
It's permissible to rely on another service. Preferably free of charge, and preferably not based out of Murica.

Also thinking about what to do in the medium- to long term. Continue with Proxmox? Switch to a bare-metal OS install, since I was mostly using a single VM + Docker for everything anyway, and get a HomeAssistant Green for my HA to keep it on separate hardware from the home server? Get two or three cheaper individual machines, connect them into a k8s cluster, host applications on that? Everything has its advantages and drawbacks. #selfhosting

Also shows the risk of #selfhosting - all my services are gone for the moment. Good: I have backups of the proxmox VMs. Bad: The proxmox cluster doesn’t have a quorum anymore, so I can’t start them on the remaining machine 🙃. May have to drop an old Pi into the cluster to get back to quorum so I can do stuff again until I the machine gets repaired or replaced.

Telemetry Tracker v1.22.8 adds one-command self-hosting: selfhost/ starts PostgreSQL, the API and the dashboard with docker compose up -d.
Compose refuses to start until you set three secrets. Migrations run on start, Postgres has no published port, and the API/dashboard listen on 127.0.0.1 behind your TLS proxy.
Measured on one test box (not a guarantee): ~4 min cold, ~261 MiB idle.
