Moved my two websites over to a #netcup #VPS running #OpenBSD. It's remarkable (and a little alarming) how many AI crawlers and credential stealers hit them, despite the fact that I don't really have a notable following. No wonder the previous host (Codeberg Pages) occasionally struggled...

At least now that I have control, I can easily punt the majority of them with a couple simple `relayd` and `pf` rules.

One of my servers at @netcup appears to have been shut down earlier today, without me having done so. It remains powered off still, and I have yet to find any mention of an outage or other service incident anywhere. What kind of weird shit is this? #netcup

Dauert das bei Netcup immer so lange bis DNS Changes Propagiert werden. Und die TTL von 24 Std die Standardmäßig eingestellt ist ist ja wohl ein witz, vorallem wenn man DynDNS damit machen will.
Habt Ihr das geändert?

@netcup just hard-rebooted BOTH of my servers in quick succession for "urgent maintenance". The whole point of renting two was redundancy. Twelve (!) duplicate notification mails, saying "during the weekend" that turned out to be Friday afternoon, and ~20 minutes of production downtime. 🤬

Combine that with the recent price hike, an unreliable web control panel, a remote console that hangs when you actually need it, and another outage, I had in 2025. Trust is seriously gone. This weekend both servers move to Hetzner: one virtualized on my Proxmox HA cluster at the CoLo, one to HCloud, linked via vSwitch. Done.

Looking for a new #European based and owned #VPS provider. I've seen that @netcup seems to be quite feature rich to incredibly nice prices. And they also seem to have decent domain registrar prices as well.

Anyone have #experience with Netcup? In my "search bubble", Netcup seems to do quite well. But I'm not sure I'm blind-sided and mislead.

And is it truly European independent? No ownership ties to other countries outside Europe?

Meine #Nectcloud läuft auf meinem voll verschlüsselten #rootServer bei #Netcup. Da bin ich zwar für alles selbst zuständig, dafür habe ich auch Vollzugriff und maximale Flexibilität. Probleme bei NC Updates gab's früher eher mal. Inzwischen läuft das problemlos, insbesondere, wenn man nicht über die grafische Oberfläche, sondern über #occ auf der Kommandozeile updatet.

So I looked for #VPS solutions that don't charge for bandwidth overage or have a large enough bandwidth cap.

Tried #Hetzner -- denied account :(
Considered #Linode -- feels a little expensive compared to others
Considered #OVHCloud -- wanted a lighter, less expensive VM than their starter

Was down to #Netcup (often mentioned in Reddit) VPS nano G11s and #BuyVM SLICE 1024.

Prioritized RAM (2x of BuyVM + 3x storage) so got Netcup despite 6mo lock-in.

Account approved, server set up!

DB1 funktioniert in phpstorm, heidisql und der php-Anwendung.
DB2 nur in php-Anwendung (interne IP).

Einstellungen sind identisch. Zugriff der beiden User von überall ist genehmigt.

@tealk ein letztes mal innerhalb #netcup, langfristig aber wo anders hin. Wir evaluieren andere Anbieter, da sowohl Leistung als auch Support für die Leistungseinbußen mangelhaft sind.

Usually you get this advertisements if someone had fun on the machine with a guest-to-host exploit.

Any recommendations for a VPS hosting provider where I can run #OpenBSD? I already have two VMs at @OpenBSDAms , so another one would be good :)

I run 21 OCI containers with Podman (and Quadlets!) on my ARM aarch64 server on Netcup with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 10.1. Memory utilization is a bit high, but the system is working absolutely stable for months.

TLS certificates and ingress-routing is handled fully automatically by Traefik and labels, attached to the containers.

Having everything containerized, makes it really easy to clean up 🙂 There's some applications, that I don't even use anymore. Time to clean up.

Then I'll continue, replacing the old Authentik installation with Keycloak for my OIDC applications (Forgejo, Wallos etc.)

Endlich habe ich mir mal die Zeit genommen und zusammengeschrieben, wie man eine #Python-#Applikation auf einem #Netcup-#Webhosting zum Laufen bekommt. So schwierig ist es nicht, vor allem wenn eine #PhusionPassenger Konfiguration mitgeliefert wird - aber leider ist die Anleitung von Netcup selbst nicht so hilfreich.

Konečně jsem se rozhoupal a pořídil si extra levný (1,87€/měsíc) VPS pico G11s od #NetCup. Původně jsem tam chtěl mít Alma Linux, ale má lenost nakonec zachránila výchozí Debian. Po chvilkách během dne jsem připravil konfigurační skripty a teď už mi tam vesele běží #Wireguard server a reverzní proxy #Caddy pro můj lokální #Immich. #selfhosting
