Some hopeful news from Serbia!

Aleksandar Vučić concedes defeat to a student-led movement in the parliamentary elections, after nearly two years of protests.

A reminder that political change is still possible, even after years of democratic backsliding.

Something to inspire us and keep hope alive.

I just learned about Serbia getting rid of their authoritarian government as well with some kind of headless student party!
I LOVE IT!

All right, now I'm very hopeful. Can we get rid of autocratic assholes in France as well? That would be top notch! Might be from student as well :)

Sod’s law: what can two turf swaps 40 years apart tell us about Britain’s #biodiversity crisis?

Patrick Barkham
Fri 16 Oct 2026 06.01 EDT

Excerpt: "The Welsh sods held 28 different species, including #grasses, #wildflowers, #brambles and even #nettles, while the manicured sods cut from Kensington Gardens were made up of a meagre three different species of grass. Suddenly, Nash’s little challenge to the art world held an #ecological message, highlighting the biodiversity to be found in #RuralMeadowlands and the sterile quality of urban parks."

[...]

"#ReverseSodSwap also reveals a more hopeful trend in #London, where species have been revived by #UrbanRewilding efforts, from creating #wildflower areas in parks to building new sustainable #UrbanDrainage areas."

CW: US politics, wolf cliché meme

We're feeding the country to the first one, right now. The Republicans aren't even shy about it. They want the America with just that wolf.

I'm frustrated because the Democratic leadership — at least — are scared of feeding the other. They're worried that El-Sayed is "underperforming", that AOC and Mamdani are "polarizing".

I am also frustrated with people who say "America has always been evil" as if that's a conversation-stopper. It's important to acknowledge the terrible wolf, but we don't have to let it win.

When it comes to voting, I will pick whichever candidate is less the first wolf and more the latter, even though imperfect. But this can't last. You can't feed both wolves strategically. We need a party that fully supports the hopeful vision of America.
