  3. A mentor once tried to give me a life lesson using a metaphor he hadn’t totally thought through and ended up stalling out before the home stretch.

  12. The North Dakota Bestiary: Little is known about North Dakota’s native hare, the White-Tailed Jackedrabbit, but we do know it never skips leg day.

Reaching speeds of over 80 miles per hour for short distances, this musclebound hare could easily blow past North Dakota’s second-fastest land animal, the pronghorn (60mph), but we’ve never seen them race each other.

    Yet. We’re working on it.

Land predators quickly learn to leave these brawny bunnies alone, and it’s not because they won’t be able to catch them in a chase; the jackedrabbit simply never runs from a predator unless it's bored. Instead, it casually waits until the supposed aggressor gets within range, then a well placed and mighty kick sends it soaring past the horizon line.

These are crepuscular critters, so if you’re ever lucky enough to observe one in the wild, it will probably be while it’s flexing or jackhammering on top of a hill at dawn or dusk.

  13. That’s a sturdy gondola shelf.
