  1. Hehe. Dear lord.

Now I'm torn between watching either Five, On the Beach, or fuckin' Threads 🤣

  2. @jloc0

    Thanks for stating that.
At this time, we(#Xfce) are NOT currently accepting bug reports against #xfwl4.

They will be closed without mercy.

  3. @jloc0

Well, a few months ago, we made an executive decision to actually pay one of our core devs to focus on building #Wayland support into #Xfce. Brian has done a great deal of work to make this happen over the past 3ish months.

Don't quote me on this; but, we _might_ enter public beta for #xfwl4 later this year.
I don't expect it to be ready for our 4.22 release. But, good progress is being made.

  4. @jloc0

Oh wow! That is really interesting to hear.
#xfwl4 is not even in public beta yet.

Thanks for living on the cutting edge.

  5. @tragivictoria

Yes, that attempt has been discarded in favor of building a compositor based on smithay.

  6. @jimedrand

Replacing labwc with xfwl4 would be the goal, yes.

Whether that happens with the upcoming 4.22 release, or not, is still TBD.

We'll have a much clearer plan & roadmap after the 1st development release of Xfwl4 (expected to be sometime mid-2026).

  8. Traditionally, #Xfce is newsworthy perhaps once every other year.

It's part of the reason I've been using it for 20+ years and volunteering with the project for...um *cough* 13+(!) years. Quiet, stable, predicatble. Boring, even. I prefer that in my Desktop Environment.

It's not even the end of January and we've already had one big announcement with #Xfwl4 and there are probably two more on the way this year:

    1. The initial development release of Xfwl4 sometime mid-year.
    2. The probable release of Xfce4 4.22 in December(Our release roadmap still needs to be updated, real soon now).

I hope that I handle this much Xfce excitement this year. 🤣 🚀

  9. Guess my little mid-winter mini sabbatical from #Xfce is officially over.
Time to catch up on the latest progress. 😆

Nice to see this announcement come through today.

Especially nice to see a burst in financial donations coming in to help support the initiative with building out #Xfwl4

It's really heartening to see the support from the community. Thank you!

  11. I will say that I was intrigued by the effort that was put into developing the Belter #ConLang even though, to my ears, it sometimes came off as a mish-mash of Afrikaaner/Jamaican affectation at times.

I definitely appreciate the commitment to its use here.

Given the choice, I think I would've preferred Marc Fisher over Nick Land/Curtis Yarvin entering the mainstream as an "intellectual" esoteric oddball.

Makes me almost pine for the days when *cough* Jordan Peterson *cough* was the *cough* "Intellectual Dark Web" *gack* poster boy.💀

We just spoke with my sister in-law who works as a manager at a military commisary on Oahu.

She was instructed to remove any posters/notices that reference culture and language from their offices this week.

She also has a number of LGBTQ folks who report to her and that material is also mandated to be removed.

    Don't ask. Don't tell.

  17. Meatspace is weird.
Drove out to a ranch house in the suburbs, yesterday, for a friend's one-year old's birthday.

Turns out pretty much all of the 20-ish adults, plus a couple semi-feral children, were complete introverts and struggled to make eye-contact with anyone.
Along with the birthday-guest's parents, there were at least two polycule/throuples mixed in with some "traditional" relatives flown in from out of state.

I had a great time bonding with the birthday girl and the 82 year old mother of the host. But, man, I've never been around such a group of people actively avoiding conversation. 🤣

As a general recluse, I felt like an exhibitionist there! Good times.

  18. Running `cmd nox -s lint-3.14 coverage-3.14 audit-3.14 tests-3.14 "${@}"` against the #Docker instance in my #nox file gives me the following error:

No source for code: '/home/kbowen/dev/python/repos/django/bookstore/accounts/admin.py'; see coverage.readthedocs.io/en/7.1.

However, running the command: `cmd nox -s lint-3.14 audit-3.14 tests-3.14 coverage-3.14 "${@}"` runs cleanly and gives me the total time runs for each test.

(Note that #coverage runs as the last test in the command & doesn't lose track of the temp files created in the tests). This collection of tests has run fine for the last 1-2 years.
Time to clean some things up.

    Not complaining. Just observing.

  19. Working my way into the impending spirit of the holidays:

    - Making gravy, stuffing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, green beans, and pumpkin pie.
    - Rockin' out to "Arthur Baker presents Breaker’s Revenge – Original B-Boy and B-Girl Breakdance Classics 1970-84"
    - Running #nox tests against a bunch of new upgrades for my #Docker containers with #Python #PostgreSQL, #coverage, etc...

  20. Be careful of the sources of your reading material.

After following a link from a link on some pop fluffy #philosophy website(The Collector), I came across a mildly interesting summary on Heidegger and his “The Question Concerning Technology” lecture. For various reasons, the article had a bit of a "smell" to it.

I gleaned some useful bits from the article. However, some of the contextualizing laid out didn't feel right, to me, from previous familiarity with the subject. Digging a bit revealed a bit of a right-wing rat hole of seemingly "enlightened" rationality.

Check your sources. I guess, thankfully, the fluffy site provided deeper links to verify some of their sources.

It's all about some Post Bop #Klezmer tonight!

Probably the first of my favorite songs from #JohnZorn and his #Masada ensemble.
Also, pretty much one of the first albums of his that I bought along with his Painkiller "Execution Grounds" project. Both blew the top of my head off when I first heard them in 1994.

Regretfully, I've never seen any of the iterations of Masada. I was, however, fortunate enough to catch Painkiller on their first tour through Seattle at Moe's Mo' Rockin' Cafe up on Capitol Hill.

This song "Abidan" off the album "Gimel" is much less frenetic, with significantly less #skronk, and more of a slow jazz-noir burn compared to most of their other work. "Hazor"(the 2nd song after this one) is another slowish, kinda swingin' tune.

Ah! Fantastic article! Thanks for sharing.

I only had the pleasure of seeing once. In , back in '94ish with his band Painkiller (Bill Laswell, Mick Harris & a guest appearance by Evyind Kang) & it blew the top of my head off.

Shortly after, I discovered his mutant-Klezmer ensemble and have been fascinated by his work ever since. Thanks.

  23. A most excellent afternoon was had fucking off up north with the SO into Skagit Valley.

Dropped into a recently discovered, most-excellent roadside . I've never had pozole or hominy before! Great stuff. Soaked up some sun as well as some local townie mini-drama with a lost Mastiff and an over-eager tweaker.

Also managed to get a preview of the early daffodil fields blooming before the tourists overrun the area for the tulip festival next month.

Now, back to the coal mines...

  26. Long day was long. Surgery, as hoped and expected, was successful.

The added bonus was my daugther & her husband drove us down to the clinic in Bellevue and we got some quality time to catch up with the kidlet and their adventures.

Got to peep some awesome new ink & watercolor work she's been cookin' up. I'm really impressed by the new thematic direction she's taking. She's developing a new style and finally starting to talk about the possibility of looking to publicly show her work(fingers crossed).

On the post-surgery return, we checked out a new(to us) Lebanese(?) place a few blocks from us that was awesome. Found my new favorite appetizer. I'm calling it Greek poutine(aka gyro fries).

Also got recruited again to babysit the gecko & snake while the kids are out of town next month. Aside from the laser to the eyeball, a great day was had by all!🎉

  27. Was lucky enough to spend a good portion of the day out on the lanai, feeding crackers to the few remaining crows who hadn't migrated away to more promising locales. They would perch on the adjacent tree branches and speak to me. I'd click my tongue back in answer to them.

I, obediently, would then show them the cracker and fling it out onto the asphalt below for them to chase, peck, and horde.

I repeated this with the same four crows for most of the afternoon.
    It was a good day.
I need to get more crackers.
