I enjoy using #nixos a lot, but the ecosystem is evolving and I struggle to keep up.
Had a spaghetti-code config for my main PC until about a year ago. Switched over to using #flake-based #divnix #digga and migrated my work PC and a small home-server to it as well. It feels linke magic when multiple similar but slightly distinct systems can be build from the same well-structured code with ease!
Now digga seems to be deprecated and #flakeParts seems to be considered best practice... -

@calebccff I work on #yocto / #openEmbedded projects on a daily basis and think it's actually pretty usable.
The fast dev-cycle using #devtool works well when modifying a single package. Rebuilds of the whole Image can take forever though.Pain points are the complexity of it all (read the docs, then grep through all layers for the undocumented parts of the implementation) and some layers taking shortcuts and messing up the caching mechanism.

Do you have any favourite parts for DC/DC switch mode converters on PCBs?
I need to generate a 1V rail that will be under very light load most of the time and a little over ~700mA in the worst case. Input voltage is 5V to 5.5V.
Looking through the available parts at JLCPCB (since that's where I'm planning to order these boards) and taking stock there and in general (mouser, digikey) as indications for a "common" part I think I'll go with a

Meine Assoziationen zum Wort #Besetzer:
- Aktionsform im Bereich "ziviler Ungehorsam"
- nicht unbedingt absolut #gewaltfrei, aber weit weg von "militärisch"
- in der Regel werden Orte besetzt, die leer stehen
- wenn es um Orte geht, die nicht leer stehen dann geschieht eine Besetzung meist in Koordination mit den "Einheimischen" -
@lagedernation hat in der aktuellen Folge im Kontext #Lützerath die Aktivist*innen "Besatzer" gennant. Wohlgemerkt Besatzer, nicht Besetzer.
Ich bin nun wirklich kein Sprachexperte, aber das wirkt auf mich total unpassend und, falls absichtlich verwendet, nach einem sehr negativen #Framing.
Meine Assoziationen zu #Besatzer:
- militärisch
- ausgehend von einer (über-)mächtigen Partei
- den "Einheimischen" Vorschriften machenAssoziationen zu #Besetzer im nächsten Toot.

#KiBot is amazing and incredibly helpful! It generates various output formats from #KiCad projects, like bom, gerbers & drill files tailored for multiple different manufacturing companies, diffs for #PCB and #schematic, 3D views and much more.
I wired up a #CI pipeline that sets the version (in files and the silkscreen on the PCB itself) to the got tag or revision, runs DRC checks and generates the manufacturing files. So much more enjoyable than doing this part by hand!

I've been reinstalling #NixOS on a small #aarch64 SBC last night to fix the bootloader problems I was observing.
Since it's a cross build from my main machine and I don't have #deployrs or similar set up yet I just `nix copy`d it over and then ran the `switch-to-configuration` script on the target.

#CrossCompilation via binfmt.emulatedSystems on #nix #nixos kinda sucks. I mean yeah, it is great that it's easy and the speed is OK when it can just download the results from the caches. But actually building packages takes forever no matter how fast the machine is.
I guess I'm somewhat spoiled by using #Yocto #OpenEmbedded professionally, for which real #CrossCompilation just works.

Anyone know a good and inexpensive source for a shelf similar to the one in this picture? It's the only practical and somewhat aesthetic solution I found while searching for an eurobox based shelf system. Sadly it's just an image search result without any context (product name, manufacturer, ???).
I know it would be possible to build something similar quite easily, but I'm trying to avoid new projects and just clean up and sort some stuff.

Die Vergangenen 2 Wochen war der komplett trocken. -
@raumfahrttutnot laut Text: Die Brennelement-Reparaturen dienen der Vorbereitung zur Entsorgung der Brennelemente aus dem Kernkraftwerk.
Ob das so stimmt und wie die Arbeitsprozesse und -werkzeuge aussehen, dass da mal eben -- oopsie -- was runterplumst weiß ich allerdings auch nicht.

I'm settling on the #adafruit #feather pinout to use for MCU modules (with or without WIFI and bluetooth) on the bike computer prototyping pcb, essentially turning it into a #featherwing. Getting different MCU's on small boards with compatible pinout is next to impossible.
The one thing with feathers is, that they are not meant to be backpowered from a wing. But narrowing the use case down to "use the feather as a MCU module" instead of "be 100% compatible with the feather ecosystem" helps.

@laenan und ich versuche das gerade sehr auf #DesignForManufacturing zu trimmen. Bei meinem ersten und einzigen bisher gefertigten PCB vor rund 2 Jahren war das BOM zusammenstellen und die Kommunikation mit dem Manufakturer das anstrengenste. Bei meinem aktuellen Design wird nur verwendet, was bei #JLCPCB in Stock ist und dann gleich mit der Part-Nr annotiert. Mal sehen ob das alles glatt geht...

@laenan als Einstieg hatte ich vor Jahren mal die "Intro to KiCAD" Serie von Digi-Key bzw. Shawn Hymel gesehen. Soweit ich mich erinnere war das auch ganz gut.
Ansonsten sind Videos meist nicht so mein Medium zum Lernen.
Podcasts höre ich ganz gerne. #TheAmpHour ist gut, wenn Chris Gammel (#ContextualElectronics) da allein mit Gästen ist. Wenn Dave Jones (#EEVBlog) mitmischt ists unerträglich, den Kerl kann ich absolut nicht leiden.
Die Software dazu wird dann in #EmbeddedFM besprochen.

Ich sitze in Karlsruhe im Grünen, beobachte einen Reiher am Fluss und radle gleich gemütlich weiter zur #gpn20. Mein "Mach dir keinen Freizeitstress" Motto scheint aufzugehen, mein #FOMO geprägtes ich spielt mit und da bin ich sehr froh drüber. Verpasste Talks kann ich mir ja im Nachhinein auf #mediacccde ansehen...

#GPN Schedule hab ich mir auch angesehen und ein paar Sachen markiert.
Bin anscheinend in den letzten Jahren entspannter geworden was #FOMO angeht, kann mich diesmal im vorhinein damit arrangieren nicht alle spannenden Vorträge zu sehen.
Gibt ja auch noch das #voc und #mediacccde !
