Second attempt at the external 4mb expansion for the #SamCoupe and it works perfectly. Decided to give #JLCPCB a try just because I couldn't bear waiting another month for #PCBWay to deliver to find out if the new design worked, and they weren't too far away on pricing. Placed the order on 26th April, it arrived today. That's not bad going at all.

uh oh. #pcbway stopped to accept sensible payment methods (at least for me; reached out to support, so let's see), and #jlcpcb is failing automated quoting. i guess it's a good moment to do a new round to see what's the current state of low volume #pcb manufacturing in europe. if you folks have any experience or hints to share i would really appreciate it! #diy #electronics.

When JLCPCB doesn't like their own panelization "the fiducials are near the slots, which will be damaged when molding, and affect SMT" 🤷.

Finished a redesign of my first PCB assembly order ever. I'm using JLCPCB and I've ordered the one part in this test design.
I'm waiting for the one part to arrive in their assembly facility in Hong Kong.
This is a 2 layer board to breakout an 8x8 mm DRAM chip with 54 pins so that I can play with it on my breadboard.
This is designed in kicad.

I'm planning to order my first custom PCB from JLCPCB, which will only have one RAM chip breakout to include on my breadboard prototype. On my breadboard, I've gotten the following working:
- ICE40 FPGA (Architry Cu)
- ESP32-C3 MCU (RISC-V + Wifi/BT)
- OV7670 Camera (640x480 30 FPS)I'd like to use the FPGA to read the camera data and store it in a RAM. Also, I'd like the MCU to be able to read single pixels at ~1000 Hz from the RAM. I plan to use the FPGA to manage the interface between the MCU and the RAM as well.
At first, my choice of RAM was a small RAM that is hard to find with a long lead time with JLCPCB. Now, I'm planning to use a slightly larger RAM with shorter lead time. This is the RAM part I'm looking at:The design in the image is the old part. I'm now starting a redesign of the PCB with the new slightly larger RAM.

I had another part of my #NeXTcube mini printed with #resin by #JLCPCB as a test.
The difference in quality is unbelievable! I should stop doing that. Otherwise I won't even want to print with filament anymore. 🙈

This was a fast one. Last night I designed a small 2 layer #GPIO stacking header board for the #RaspberryPi that will be used in my #NeXTcube mini to provide a power and activity LED. It's in production at #JLCPCB already.

I've ordered way too many components from #lcsc and #mouser for a frew projects. I also unlocked an achievement:
First full component reel ordered (just some resistors)
But now, I'll have to play the waiting game: 2-3 weeks, but that's how it works. Let's just hope that the order from LCSC doesn't arrive in Germany, but rather any other EU country. PCBs from #JLCPCB are also on their way (soon, after thy will be produced)

New PCBs from #jlcpcb . First time doing hot plate soldering, only had to fix one solder bridge! so much easier than using an iron on these 0.5mm pin pitch parts.
Of course it doesn't work 😄 I got the connector pins backwards... Luckily they make a reversed connector so these boards don't go into trash, just have to wait for new parts!

made a new release of my JLCPCB Altium libraries.
this new release contains 55451 resistors, 15361 capacitors, 5047 inductors, and a brand new addition: 2384 ferrite beads.
I also fixed an issue where inductors had their category labelled incorrectly and their inductance erroneously listed in the capacitance field.

They said this wouldn’t work but it bloody well does! Just three more digits to solder up (161 individual LEDs!) and I’ll have a clock!
I’m so glad it does work though because I ordered two hundred of these pcbs 😂

OMG! The #resin test print for my #NeXT #MegaPixel display from #JLCPCB just arrived. And the quality is SOOO much better compared to the #FDM printed part! Damn, I need a resin printer... 🙈

😠 I really wish #JLCPCB would up their game when it comes to parts for assembly.
I needed 1,500 IC but they only had ~300 so I pre-ordered on 2025-01-16 est. arrival March.
Two days later they have 3k in stock 🤦 . Luckily they're not expensive so I can just buy them again but they really need to do better IMHO.
(sadly #LCSC aren't any better with backordered parts)

This wasn't there yesterday but I love the new #JLCPCB panel options. The column/row spacing is going to be especially handy as previously I'd request it in the notes which they didn't always spot first time delaying it with reviews (the micro USB connectors I use overhang the PCB so need spaces to sit flat).

I made a script that extracts multilayer board stackups from JLCPCB's API, for every layer count, board thickness, and copper weight option.
it translates the raw API data into a clean normalised JSON format, and also into Altium stackup files. the normalised JSON should be easy to consume if you want to build stackups for other EDA tools.
everything is pretty well documented, so it should be easy to modify and update to your needs.

After some consideration, I’m going back to #EasyEDA. I really wanted to use Kicad, and get my PCBs from a European manufacturer. But #JLCPCB is way more competitive and has better options. And Kicad is way too weird for me. Maybe in the future. #pcbdesign

TL;DR: JLC/EasyEDA's new colorful silk is just SVGs in an encrypted #drm trenchcoat that only JLC can decrypt. This is bad for open source hardware.

So, on that new JLCPCB colorful silk screen feature that's making the rounds atm. From what I can tell, the colorful silkscreen layers are just plain SVG files, but they encrypt them in a way that only EasyEDA and JLC can read them (and you can't). That means not only can these Gerbers never work with other vendors, you can't even export your own design from EasyEDA in a way you, yourself, can read or import in another tool. #electronics #pcb #jlcpcb #easyeda

finally got some sound out of this SID Player for ESP32 I designed while learning Kicad 🥳
the whole lot of mistakes I made can't be enumerated here, but the biggest one was inverting pins D{0-7} position in the schema editor 🤦♂️
ironically this is the only error I could recover from by using software whereas other "patches" would involve cutting tracks or adding wires
