#VoidLinux is great. It's a #diy #distro and therefore very #customizable, but also stable and very intuitive.

I'm setting it up via #Ansible and will then do a fluent switch to it as soon as the #playbook is done. Can't wait to #dailydrive it. I've also read multiple times that the gaming performance is very good.

What i like the most is that

xbps is really fast
there are a lot of packages in the repo
the packages are reasonably up-to-date
the nvidia driver installation is very easy
the overall performance is stunning

Kubernetes полюбился разработчикам своим удобством: описал развертывание, в любой момент изменил параметры — и все работает. Но вот раскатка самих кластеров долгое время оставалась лоскутным одеялом: Terraform, Ansible, десятки плейбуков и пайплайнов. Потерял стейт — и начинается квест. Cluster API (CAPI) закрыл этот разрыв и за последние годы стал едва ли не стандартом для управления Kubernetes-кластерами. Он превратил развертывание и сопровождение инфраструктуры в такой же декларативный процесс, как деплой приложения. В нашей платформе «Штурвал» мы уже давно используем Cluster API в продакшене. И довольно быстро стало понятно: это не просто удобный способ развернуть Kubernetes, а смена парадигмы эксплуатации. Но вместе с предсказуемостью приходят новые сложности — от обновлений управляющей плоскости до нетривиальных сценариев отказа. Managing #OpenWRT via #Ansible is a breeze. I just love the fact that all the settings, all the #firewall rules, all the good stuff is configured with config files.

I've created 6 #VLANs, all of them completely #isolated, with a few allowed traffic rules. I've even isolated the #Windows #PC of my roommate inside of the #trusted #network.

Now his #XiaomiTVBox can't scan the network anymore (yes it actually does that. I've noticed it while working on my packet monitoring project).

There are many opinions and combinations possible, of course. I prefer simple, community backed, and solid foss blocks that interoperate. That converged to:
* #debian for base OS
* data on encrypted #zfs
* #incus for VM and system containers management (formerly LXD)
* #ansible for automation, with the debops collection

Infrastructure for people, to solve our problems and at our scale, with all the tools under direct control of worker sysadmins

Yesterday, I received an alert on the server hosted at my dad's house.

This host is often down because the humidity attacks the disks and brings down the entire host from time to time, or my dad tinkers on the electric circuit. So I wasn't worried at first.

But today, after 24 hours and no news from him, I started to be a little anxious. What could have happened? Is he safe?

I finally have an explanation. He drove to the south of the country to visit another family member but forgot to tell me he had arrived. The most important thing is that he's safe.

He also forgot to tell me that he shut down the usual electric devices including the modem, so my server was cut from the Internet for two weeks 💀

No worries daddy, I tested my DRP (Disaster Recovery Procedure) to restore my forgejo instance (https://git.riou.xyz) at my house. The procedure went well thanks to Ansible and ZFS. The service is now up and running again! 😎

The other services on this host are only important for him when he's at home so they don't need to be restored somewhere else.

Today in "Keep your homelab up to date":

I updated all but one device from OpenWRT 24.10.5 to 24.10.6 and then to 25.12.1, using my custom-built images as usual (the images contain things like python, sudo or rsync to make the device manageable via Ansible and backupable via dirvish).

The one device that makes problems is a AVM FritzRepeater 1750E. After a lot of swearing and debugging, I installed a 25.12.1 image via the recovery (FTP for the win, ahem). Unfortunately this meant that I lost all the configuration on the device. And for reasons unknown to me it now refuses to restore the configuration (which involves a networking change from plain network to VLAN-based setup with a different IP range).

Next step: Go back to 24.10.6 and try to restore the configuration there...

Sadly, we still lost in total but I managed to get a draw against a 1500+ as I found out later.
