Solo Mio (2026)
I hadn’t even heard of this movie until @gabz posted about it. And I’m so glad he did! Maybe I’m just a sucker for a good romantic comedy, but I love this movie. Kevin James is luminescent. (4½ stars out of 5)

The Amateur (2025)
You could say this movie is highly implausible, but what spy movie isn’t? But is it good? Well that depends. If you want to have fun watching a movie with a satisfying but well-worn revenge trope, then I’d say yes. Plus Laurence Fishburne. (3 stars out of 5)

Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977)
Inspired by our visit to Devil’s Tower, we rewatched this Spielberg classic in our hotel room. It’s one part arthouse flick, one part B-grade sci-fi, and one part masterpiece. The problem watching it is that it swings wildly back and forth among all three. (3½ stars out of 5)

However that count is reset after 365 days and also only goes to 250! (🖼️ 2)
Therefore companies can simply mass report negative reviews to improve their rating.

🗺️ While visiting Pride #Berlin, I learned how utterly pointless #GoogleMaps Reviews in #Germany are.
⭐ Any place can simply report negative #reviews for defamation or claim the person was never there and have it removed.
Users can then appeal & risk a lawsuit.
When a review is removed the removed count on #Google Maps goes up (🖼️ 1)

Stick Season 1 (2025) Rewatch
My mom was watching for the first time so I watched with her. I forgot how GOOD this show is. It might be one of the most underrated shows of the last couple years. Looking forward to the second season.

Ride or Die (2026)
Prestige TV this is not. The cast is great, but they can’t cover for dialog that swings wildly between cheesy and shmaltzy. They should have named the main character Whipsaw instead of Whiptail. Nonetheless, this is a fun show to watch and the story really picks up steam in the last three episodes. If there is a second season — which they set up with such fanfare there might as well have been fireworks and a parade — I’ll watch.

The Dink (2026)
It’s sort of Caddyshack for the 21st century and is just what you’d expect: flimsy plot, dumb jokes, and a few celebrity cameos. Speaking of which, Johnny Mac’s scenes are the only ones where I actually laughed out loud — earning the movie an extra half star for an otherwise unremarkable “comedy.”
★★ (out of 5)

The Odyssey (2026)
Wow, that was an adrenaline rush. I needed a few minutes to collect myself afterward. A few other thoughts:
⁃ Zendaya doesn’t need more dialogue, she says everything she needs to with her eyes.
⁃ John Lequizamo is the bright star in every scene he’s in.
⁃ I was skeptical of Matt Damon. I was wrong.
⁃ In fact, the casting across the board is pretty darn good.Top shelf. Great film. (4½ stars out of 5)

Troy (2004)
Watched in preparation for Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, at the suggestion of @ravi. I was surprised. It’s a decent — if flawed — epic. But a movie doesn’t have to be perfect to be good, does it? This movie revolves around Achilles (Pitt) but it’s easy to forget since there are so many key characters portrayed by top-shelf actors. O’Toole steals every scene he’s in. And the number of familiar faces almost become distracting: Bean, Bana, Cox, Bloom, Gleeson, Hedlund, and on and on. Overall, quite entertaining. (3½ stars out of 5)

The Bear Season 5 (2026)
Just finished watching the final season of The Bear. My heart is bounding and there’s a lump in my throat. When you get past the noise and the stress and all the stuff the critics are right about, it’s a beautiful story of hurting and healing and becoming. Perfect ending. Wow. Just wow. And I’m loving the soundtrack by Christian Lundberg. 5 stars. No notes.

Xanadu (1980)
This isn’t the worst movie ever made — though some would disagree — but it isn’t exactly good either. I’m giving it the benefit of the doubt (between bad and so-so) and rating it so-so. But it’s got a kick-ass soundtrack and I love it. Judging by the IMDB reviews, I’m not the only one. (3 stars/5)

Four Weddings and a Funeral (2019)
Unlike the recent “reimagining” of one of my favorite films, The Four Seasons, this remake is actually decent. Sure, some of the dialog is not great and the actors are not top shelf, but who cares? Remakes have the nearly impossible challenge of living up to the original without being repetitive, and updating it without destroying it in the process. This one does a good job of both. (3/5 stars)

Paradise Season 2 (2026)
This season had moments of painful sadness (A Holy Charge), intensity (The Mailman), and weirdness (Exodus). Is Alex (aka A-L3X0.2) the shark over which Xavier (aka X) just jumped? I’ll be watching season 3 to find out. (4 stars/5)

The Pink Panther (1963)
Where is the comedy? Where is the slapstick? It’s a clever story, but a very dull movie.
-
Revenge of the Pink Panther (1978)
Not one of the better Pink Panther movies, but good for a few laughs.
-
Hacks Season 5
This show was just too good. It was great from the beginning right through to the end.
-
The Final Countdown (1980)
This movie does what good sci-fi does: it starts with a weird premise — however implausible — and builds an interesting story around it. Who needs fancy special effects when you have all those Navy planes and helos?
-
Without Remorse (2021)
Didn’t watch it when it first came out. Now I’m feeling like I might need to catch up on some of the novels that I missed too.

Landman Season 2
is one of those shows written to push all your emotional buttons: desperately sad one minute, laugh-out-loud funny the next. Hopeless, yet hopeful. I’m impressed by the depth of the characters, who are portrayed by an even more impressive cast. Is it realistic? I don’t know. Is it good TV? Hell, yeah.
