  1. With some help from the SZE community, I can now log my service uptime and latency in #Db2 using #Golang !

I've got a service called CompInvZ which links into my Db2Z host to find services, then it periodically tries to connect and records the result back to DB2

A friend of mine took it a step further and is using #ISPF to interact with Db2 via #REXX

That means #CICS is next on the list, thanks #Walmart !

  7. Now: doing evil things to #CICS JVM servers so you don't have to.
    Next: the weekend! 🎉

  8. @thomholwerda Although it's almost certainly not going to be a product you have any use of, I remember (unpleasantly) having to do manual developer testing of #IBM #CICS Transaction Gateway on Solaris, HP-UX, AIX (and more) in 2004.

So, at least one small part of IBM still cared :-)

  10. Yes we have #Java #Future interfaces for #async #asynchronous processing - but did you know the #IBM #Mainframe can do the same now? In java - sure - but also in #Cobol?

I just did the test for #CICS and I passed.

It is the last part of my trip to see how the mainframe evolved since I used it 1989-1992.

    Now it is #Java, #Jenkins, ... #vscode

And Java #Mockito works well with #IBMZ! The hell froze over. IBM Z and open systems!

The "new" thing is that COBOL can do async calls since 2017!

  11. This is an explanation of CICS programming (for IBM mainframes). Much of the worlds commerce and government is absolutely tied to this stuff.

  13. Blimey, I think I just successfully created a #CICS bundle with a html POST, which is nice.

  14. Someone has starred my #CICS repo! The fool! 😁

  15. Just spotted that the last version of #HyperledgerFabric I worked on before moving to #CICS finally got released! (On 1st April, which seems appropriate!)

  16. @iainH gives his perspective on the CICS restructure project: iainhouston.com/restructure_an

CICS is an IBM transaction processing product which was radically and successfully restructured to reduce the cost of maintenance and enable functional enhancements. I worked on the tail end of the initial restructure project and later helped to factor out several more key components. This was one of the most exciting parts of my career and I'm so grateful I had the opportunity to be involved.
