Hitachi Vantara publica su Informe de Sostenibilidad con foco en infraestructura energéticamente eficiente para IA
Hitachi Vantara, subsidiaria de Hitachi Ltd. (TSE: 6501) especializada en almacenamiento de datos, infraestructura y gestión de nube híbrida, anunció hoy la publicación de su Informe de Sostenibilidad Año Fiscal 2025, que detalla avances medibles en sus prioridades ambientales, sociales y de gobernanza (Fuente Hitachi Vantara Latam).
El informe destaca progresos en infraestructura energéticamente eficiente, incluyendo innovaciones en la plataforma de datos Virtual Storage Platform One (VSP One), la expansión de iniciativas de sostenibilidad del ciclo de vida, y el fortalecimiento de prácticas de gobernanza para apoyar a las organizaciones ante la creciente demanda de IA y cargas de trabajo intensivas en datos.
A medida que las organizaciones aceleran la transformación digital y la adopción de IA, las demandas energéticas y de eficiencia de la infraestructura de datos aumentan significativamente, generando nuevos desafíos operativos y de sostenibilidad.
Según la Agencia Internacional de Energía (IEA), el consumo eléctrico global de los centros de datos podría superar los 1.000 Teravatios por hora para 2026, equivalente aproximadamente al consumo anual de electricidad de un país industrializado importante, impulsado en parte por cargas de trabajo de IA.
Al mismo tiempo, las organizaciones enfrentan presión para reducir costos, lo que dificulta equilibrar el rendimiento con el impacto ambiental. A medida que aumenta la demanda de electricidad, también crecen los requerimientos de energía y refrigeración para soportar la infraestructura de datos, haciendo que la eficiencia sea un factor crítico, tanto en costos como en sostenibilidad.
Hitachi Vantara aborda este desafío integrando la sostenibilidad en su infraestructura, para reducir el consumo energético, optimizar operaciones y mejorar el retorno de inversión.
“La sostenibilidad está cada vez más vinculada al rendimiento operativo y a los resultados de negocio”, señaló Akinobu Shimada, CEO de Hitachi Vantara. “Durante el Año Fiscal 2025, nos enfocamos en ayudar a las organizaciones a gestionar el crecimiento de la IA y los datos, mejorando la eficiencia y reduciendo el impacto ambiental. Nuestras inversiones en innovación de infraestructura, diseño de ciclo de vida y gobernanza están logrando resultados concretos”.
Aspectos destacados del informe:
- Eficiencia y rendimiento de la infraestructura: Hitachi Vantara presentó VSP One Block High End, diseñado para ofrecer infraestructura escalable que mejora la eficiencia manteniendo alta confiabilidad y reduciendo los requerimientos de energía y refrigeración para cargas empresariales y de IA, respaldado por herramientas integradas de monitoreo energético, reducción de carbono y reportes de sostenibilidad.
- Avances en sostenibilidad del ciclo de vida: La compañía amplió las iniciativas de evaluación del ciclo de vida en sus portafolios VSP One Block, File y Object, permitiendo una medición más precisa del impacto ambiental y mayor visibilidad de emisiones de Alcance 3. Estos esfuerzos se complementan con herramientas como el panel Clear Sight, que brinda visibilidad sobre consumo energético y uso de carbono, junto con insights accionables para optimizar la eficiencia y el impacto ambiental.
- Circularidad y sostenibilidad de materiales: Hitachi Vantara incrementó el uso de plásticos reciclados posconsumo en sus sistemas de almacenamiento, alcanzando hasta un 50% de contenido reciclado en componentes clave. Además, reportó que menos del 0,3% de los materiales fueron enviados a vertederos, siendo la gran mayoría reutilizados o reciclados mediante programas optimizados de recuperación y circularidad.
- Mejoras en gobernanza y calidad de datos: La compañía fortaleció la gobernanza transversal y los procesos de seguimiento de emisiones, mejorando la preparación para auditorías y la precisión de datos en Alcance 1, Alcance 2 y categorías clave de Alcance 3, alineándose con objetivos de reducción basados en la ciencia y estándares ESG en evolución.
El compromiso de Hitachi Vantara con la sostenibilidad se extiende más allá de sus propias operaciones, enfocándose en ayudar a las organizaciones y países a lograr mejoras medibles en eficiencia, rendimiento e impacto ambiental.
A través de su infraestructura y plataformas de datos, la compañía permite a las organizaciones reducir el consumo energético, optimizar el uso de recursos y operar de manera más sostenible a escala.
Si bien el Informe de Sostenibilidad Año Fiscal 2025 refleja el progreso del último año, también evidencia un cambio más amplio en el enfoque de Hitachi Vantara hacia la sostenibilidad, integrando eficiencia, transparencia y pensamiento de ciclo de vida directamente en su infraestructura y operaciones.
Este enfoque ayuda a las organizaciones a operacionalizar la sostenibilidad a escala, especialmente a medida que aumentan las demandas de infraestructura impulsadas por la IA.
