It was an honor and a privilege to nominate my bride for a position on the #ACB Board Of Publications. It is no exaggeeration to say that she’s one of the most brilliant people I’ve ever known,, and she’d do such a great job on the board. This is where I should say something like I’m confident we will win or words to that effect, but I’m a realist, and I know how these things go. What we are both hoping for is a decent showing. We have both been involved with #ACB in the past but that was long ago and far away. We want to get back into the swing, be it here in #Tennessee or back in #Indiana where we may be going.

To those currently in travel mode on their way to STL for #ACB2026 let me say safe travels and I hope you have a great time. I did everything I could to be there with you all, but it just wasn't in the cards this year. Unfortunately, there is this very annoying thing called money that has the propensity to just wreck everything. I am more grateful that I can say that #ACB has a hybrid convention of both in-person and virtual. I have always said that it's the one thing I thank the pandemic for. Also, I look forward to the day when #NFB instigates hybrid as well. If ACB can do it, so can they. As many of you know, I will be more virtually involved in this convention than I ever have before. For those who may not know, Sarah is running for the Board of Publications as a nomination from the floor. Now, conversations I have had over the past week or so lead me to believe that her doing this has upset a few apple carts. Well, I contend that there are times when some apple carts need to be upset. So think good thoughts Saturday night, when the elections roll around. Otherwise, have a great time! Convention is an experience like no other.

The #ACB model of virtual and in-person hybrid convention is very unique, particularly since there’s a one-week break between the two. It’s like you get all fired up one week, take the next one off, and then get all worked up again. Still and all, though, I’m very glad that people who can’t plunk down the money to actually go to the convention can still more or less fully participate, thanks to #Zoom and other tech. I will say, though, that there’s really nothing like actually being there. #ACB26 #ACB2026

@darren_duff @dotsonapage There isn’t much here I can disagree with. For the record, I am familiar with the #Facebook post referenced, so even though I’ll do my best to stick to they/them pronouns I may slip at some point. Anyhow…As I said, I don’t disagree with the writer. At all. I have been involved on some level or other in #ACB for almost 40 years, 2/3 of my life. If I am honest, I’d have to say there has been precious little advancement in much of anything—employment, opinions of what blind people can do, and on down the line. This is not through lack of trying; both organizations have done great work in trying to advance these issues. But it’s a battle similar to Sisyphus rolling the rock uphill, only to have it roll right back down and having to do it all over again. To a rather large extent, general attitudes about blindness are very tightly engrained, woven into society, are not changing, and barring a miracle, will probably never change. It’s a similar struggle that #POC face, and in saying that I’m not at all trying to conflate blindness attitudes with racism, but there’s no denying that there are parallels. I can’t be certain of this, my memory sometimes plays tricks on me, but I seem to remember that the very thing the author talks about has been tried in the past, that is setting up blind individuals as business entrepreneurs, with little success. Something I have learned the hard way over the past several nights following the #ACB convention. Politics is a losing game, any way you slice it, and the good guys definitely don’t always win. If there is something someone wants to happen, even if it isn’t necessarily kosher, there’s always a way to do it, and you can even keep it within procedural rules, though just barely. I talked Sarah into running for the #BOP, and I’m now wondering if I shouldn’t have. I mean, she deserves to serve, her body of work can stand with anyone’s, but I can’t help but be a bit afraid for her. Nonetheless, she’s going to be put into nomination against Deborah Armstrong. Positive thoughts very much appreciated. #ACB26 #ACB2026
