@lifstrand A good way to discover great other instances is to go to the public feed of one like writing.exchange, and see what instances their members are boosting in their own timelines. MANY instances maintain a public feed for anyone to come browse (although not all)! https://writing.exchange/public/local

Finally had a chance to read some of the tips. Very well done. If I started with your website fedi.tips I would have saved myself some consternation (toots, instances, edit images), but figuring it out also meant I spent a lot of time interacting with people and toots. Win/Win either way. Definitely recommend for those who want to spend less time floundering.

Would the situation improve if a federated list of instances was part of the mastodon server functionality? Server admins could provide a list of recommended / like minded / interesting servers to look at. Maybe sites like #JoinMastodon and #FediGarden could then use those lists to create server independent entry points.

Some people assign new Follows to lists as they go along. Good advice. But sometimes we have lots of Follows to assign, or we may want to re-organise our #List categories.
@acbeers has developed a super useful #ListManager that lets you assign Follows to Lists in one big table. Each of your Follows is a row, each of your Lists is a column. You click to assign. Done.

Wishing I could mute words but that function won't work because it thinks I've left the title blank. I thought "muted topics" was a decent enough title. Maybe it's the Mastodon app that'sbeing difficult?

Findes til forefox, chrome og edge og giver mulighed for at dele til flere instanser og det benytter besked feltet fra serveren direkte, så beskeder mm ryger ikke via en 3.parts server.

FYI for those of you who use @elk - there's a bug where user notes appear to save but actually fail to. If you want to save a user note, you'll need to use the vanilla Mastodon interface (or some other app where notes are working)

If you want to follow someone on Mastodon and they are on a different server/instance than you, you can find them by entering their full address in the search bar. For instance, if you want to find Mike McCue and you’re not on Flipboard.social, search for ATmikeATflipboard.social.(replace AT with @)

Onderdeel daarvan is het toevoegen van een verklarende tekst (ook wel alt tekst genoemd) aan media die je toevoegd.
Sommige apps vragen daarom bij toevoegen bij andere moet je even op de media klikken voor verzending.
Blinden en slechtzienden maak je hier erg blij mee. Het is wel een gewoonte die inslijten moet. Begrijpelijk als je het vergeet. Daar hebben we wat opgevonden. Volg

Vooraf wil ik zeggen dat ik niet tegen een paywall ben in het algemeen. Het adverteren met een paywall zoals op twitter en andere media die daarmee verdienen uitstekend.
Op Mastodon ligt dat anders en ik wil hier uitleggen waarom.
Mastodon is geen commerciële organisatie. Het bestaat inmiddels uit duizenden servers bedreven en gefinancieerd door admins en gebruikers.
Op het moment dat je paywall artikelen plaatst maak je op al die instanties gratis reclame voor je bedrijf. Het wordt betaald door gebruikers en admins. Je voegt niets toe. Je parisiteert.
Op Mastodon is interactie van belang. Gebruikers de paywall artikelen plaatsen moeten zich bewust worden van het feit dat de gemeenschap hier niets aan heeft. Je confronteert mensen met ongevraagde reclame. Dat is onwenselijk.
Als je iemand daarop wijst krijg je vaak advies een bron te gebruiken die die paywall omzeilt. Aan de ene kant is dat gewoon illegaal. Aan de andere kant post dan zelf die 'andere link'.
Al met al, denk na wat je post. Net als ALT tekst is het ook van belang dat anderen je links kunnen lezen.

Als je een bericht liked :mstar: dan ziet alleen de originele auteur dat.
Als je een bericht boost :repeat: dan gaat het naar al je volgers en de instanties waar ze actief zijn.
Mijn advies is als je een like gebruikt gebruik dan ook altijd een boost op een origineel bericht. Bewaar de likes zonder boost voor antwoorden.
