  2. Puhas rõõm huilgamisest. Hea plaat. Bluusi-gospeli religioossed kihid omapäraselt võimenduvad. See on ühtaegu püha ja naljakas. Meenub Mülleri Sass.

  3. Kirjutasin Heinsaare ööpäevikute kohta Kivivalgel-teksti, mis ootamatul kombel osutus peaaegu nagu millekski arvustuse-taoliseks:

  4. Everybody knows Nirvana but so few people know #Shellac, especially this album. Life is so unjust. The world would be so much better place if all artists of every kind were as uncompromising and true to themselves as #SteveAlbini .

  5. This is exceptionally good ambient /experimental electronic album, and also pretty accessible. I am rediscovering #PhilipJeck again. What a great artist he was; I am missing him.

  9. "Me ei talunud 80ndaid üldse, ei muusikaliselt ega muudmoodi. 1980ndad oli kohutav aeg, milles elada. Tol ajal kirusime, et miks pidid 80ndad just meie aeg olema!? Kuradi õudne. Margaret Thatcher, kohutav muusika, inimesed tegid kohutavaid filme ja kirjutasid kohutavaid raamatuid."

  10. For a long time I have been astonished how little is #blues associated with contemporary pop music - since the 80s really. I am not longing for 60s and 70s rock revival. But blues from the beginning of 20th century pretty much is the birth of all pop and rock. So why has it disappeared? Because blues is great, I love blues.

So it is always nice to discover remarkable exeptions to this bluesless trend.

  14. I desperately want to read a novel or longer piece of prose - basically just decent literature - about the current (post-Feb/2022) situation in #Russia. Nuanced enough overall mood, zeitgeist. I have not heard of any examples. For two years I read all kinds of news, articles, expert analyses, reports etc, but they do not contain what I need at all.

Some might say "this is not a time for writing literature", but I do not believe it.

  15. #EdwardLucas writes that it was rock'n'roll that sank Russia-dominated communism. It fell because it was so boring. Totally agreed, but boredom is the main problem of contemporary surveillance capitalism too. At least we can criticize and fight it in democracy.

  16. I have never been much of a fan of folk music, but I used to like #DeadCanDance very much when I was young. This Belgian artist, #AnneliesMonsere reminded me of DCD to the point of déjà vu - and in a very good sense. "Mares" (2023) is super fine album, from the first track to the last. Very pleasant surprise.

  18. I read that #steveroden, an American sound artist, has died. He created the most idiosyncratic, original and delicate sounds that defy categorization. #LawrenceEnglish has written beautiful tribute about this unique person. I once sent link of poems by #JaanKaplinski to Steve Roden, thinking he might like them. He did, and enthusiastically wrote me back. Maybe this illustrates his "porous" personality Lawrence English writes about.

  19. This is one of the best indie albums ever. Overlooked and forgotten though. Also very good and interesting sound and production, an opposite of the regrettable trend of bloated bass-heaviness, which is ubiquitous nowadays.

  22. #Mastodon hit 10 000 000 users yesterday. I wonder why there has been so little fanfare. And there has been huge increase in the influx of new users in recent days for some reason. Maybe because Mastodon works great. Anyway, congratulations!
