His music was a powerful and overwhelming experience. -
I discovered Phill Niblock when I was at studying at tonis, so maybe fourteen years ago. I haven't listened to him for many years, but as I prefer listening to drone when I need to concentrate (e.g. study) and I've listened to my own stuff so much I gave him a whirl.
It's weird, I remember it as, like, REALLY dissonant music and sort of crushing. But it's pretty mild? Just nice sounds layered.
I would like to see him live at some point though. I've heard he's great. -

Continuing the drone towards sound bath extremes: this Phill Niblock album MUST be played at mind-breaking volume. Somehow, it's never brittle – kind of like a non-angry Glenn Branca. Superb stuff.
