What are you really thinking about just now? Incorporate
Breathe more deeplyFirst, I thought it was a poem, but actually, it's the track list of the Small Cruel Party side of this split LP with Steve Roden – an LP that I feel fits into a musical side of #silentsunday. Very nice.

In this excerpt from The Tonearm Podcast, Stephen Vitiello describes the ethical care involved in using late collaborator Steve Roden's material on his album 'Trinity,' explaining how he worked closely with Roden's widow and approached the track as he would have in person.

Steve Roden - Stars Of Ice
The work combines field recordings, subtle electronic manipulations and acoustic elements to evoke a sense of quiet introspection and ethereal beauty. It is a meditative exploration of a sound that is often described as fragile and expansive at the same time, inviting listeners into a serene, otherworldly atmosphere.

I read that #steveroden, an American sound artist, has died. He created the most idiosyncratic, original and delicate sounds that defy categorization. #LawrenceEnglish has written beautiful tribute about this unique person. I once sent link of poems by #JaanKaplinski to Steve Roden, thinking he might like them. He did, and enthusiastically wrote me back. Maybe this illustrates his "porous" personality Lawrence English writes about.

❝It was concrete resting on a balloon being supported by air, so in the areas where there’s a little bit of disruption of the surface, you get these pockets. So once in a while, depending on where you are standing, you have a parabolic where you have sound coming directly down into your ear but no one else can hear it.❞ — #SteveRoden https://www.kcrw.com/culture/articles/inside-the-last-bubble-house

After a long day of travelling, I’m very sad to hear the news of Steve Roden’s passing. His work has meant a great deal to me over the last two decades, and although I never had the privilege of meeting him, I felt I knew a little of him—as we often think we do—through his quietly questioning music, ideas and influence. Maybe it’s hyperbole but I feel like we’ve lost a major figure in late 20th and early 21st century sound art. Condolences to his family and friends.

❝#SteveRoden had a porousness that allowed him to trace the relationships, as delicate as they might be, between object, sound, and space. It was then, just the case for him of allowing those things to resonate with one another. A gentle shift here, a repositioning there and Steve could create the most delightful orbits from the simplest of ideas and materials. Anything was possible, because everything was available.❞ — @room40 https://thequietus.com/articles/33373-steve-roden-obituary

#NowPlaying #SteveRoden “Winter Couplet” was created for the 2002 L.A. Freewaves festival. It was made using the sounds of 2 tea cups and played through 8 speakers connected to cardboard tubes. The tubes acted as resonators, inspired by the work of architect #ShigeruBan. This version is a stereo mix of the original work. https://room40.bandcamp.com/album/winter-couplet
