  1. @seyon Thank you for posting this. I was just thinking of #DiamandaGalás recently as I was reorganizing my music collection. I haven't listened to her work in quite a long time and now is the time.

  2. I've had Diamanda Galás's "Saint of the Pit" on repeat recently. What a voice. What a record. What the hell

  3. I have "Insane Asylum" from Diamanda Galás's album Malediction & Prayer going through my head tonight (as one does).

Some of you like metal or music that goes hard. This is a whole different level.

If you like this, the entire album is astonishing.

  4. Puhas rõõm huilgamisest. Hea plaat. Bluusi-gospeli religioossed kihid omapäraselt võimenduvad. See on ühtaegu püha ja naljakas. Meenub Mülleri Sass.

  5. And this!!! A group called OMI (Ingblazh, Victor Pushkar, Oleksander Yurchenko), apparently with contributions from Ryuichi Sakamoto and Diamanda Galas!

  6. Umm, I'm currently being absolutely terrified by this album, which is like a mix of Lingua Ignota/Reverend Kristin Michael Hayter, Tom Waits, Euchrid Eucrow (MC in Nick Cave's novel And The Ass Saw The Angel), and a handful of living nightmare skits I was forced to watch as a kid in church to scare me about the devil. So, in case you also want to hear that:

  7. Fantastic discovery thanks to @buffyleigh also listed in the #1001otheralbums list. If #DiamandaGalas is ever looking for someone to carry her torch.....

  8. #GenreOfTheWeek

    #VenaCava is a live performance album released in 1993 by #AvantGardeMusic #ExperimentalMusic artist #DiamandaGalas

She attracted attention particularly for her voice – a soprano #Sfogato – and written accounts that describe her work as original and thought-provoking refer to her as "CAPABLE OF THE MOST UNNERVING VOCAL TERROR" 📢 listen @ 2:40 !

Here's an excerpt I think is just fantastic. It includes #AmazingGrace and #InHeavenThereIsNoBeer

    Enjoy!

  9. related musings...

an example of why algorithms really suck is how they almost always fail to make meaningful HUMAN connections between artists and songs

these are the artists that #Pandora tells me are similar to #DiamandaGalas: Marianne Faithfull, Nina Simone, Bjork, Dead Can Dance... all great artists, but none come close to what she was doing

when I want "similar" to her, I don't want "female vocalist" "unconventional" "opera singer" "blues" "gospel", "avant garde"

no, fuck those, what I want is "gut wrenching" "incantation" "ritualistic" "soul destroying" "hallucinogenic" "psychoses inducing" "sorcery" "thaumaturgy" "conjuring" "necromancy"

or, when my mood is different: "sedation" "hypnotic" "trance inducing" "contemplative" "ecstatic"

i don't give a rat's ass about genre. i get that it's a necessary evil sometimes as a shortcut. but it misses so much of what's important in artistry

the whole "if you like X, you will like Y" thing is so fucking stupid because it doesn't adress *why* i like X!

  10. In an ever-changing world it is reassuring to know that Diamanda Galas will always strip the paint from your soul.

"Composed in 2020 during the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, the first incarnation of the work was played as a sound installation at the Kapellen Leprosarium (Leper's Sanctuary)"

    FUCK YEAH IT WAS.

  11. #TheQuietus has released their list of the top 100 albums of 2022. These lists are always great and I always find that I know about 8 of the artists and three of the releases. 2022 is no different...
