Tart, thick-skinned varieties tend to last the longest, including #GrannySmith, #McIntosh, #Fuji, Rome, #PinkLady, #Braeburn, #Crispin, Gold Rush, #Winesap, and Jonathan. Some even become sweeter and more flavorful with time. Thin-skinned varieties, such as #GoldenDelicious, generally aren’t as well suited for long-term storage.
"Apples also love the cold. For everyday storage, tuck them into your refrigerator’s crisper drawer, ideally away from other produce that can speed up ripening. Under the right conditions—around 30 to 35 degrees F with high humidity—apples can stay fresh for six to eight weeks.
"Want to keep a big apple haul even longer? Choose firm, unblemished fruit and wrap each apple individually in non-glossy paper, then layer them in boxes and store them in a cool, dark place, such as a basement or garage. And hold off on washing them until you’re ready to eat or cook with them; keeping their natural protective coating intact helps them last longer. "
