  1. The project aims to help create a human centric, next generation Internet by encapsulating human rights into every layer of the stack: datatracker.ietf.org/doc/rfc82

In simple terms, it means private by default, local first applications that give full control to the user over what to sync and share with whom - and by implication, no services or web apps that take that decision away.

We're making building blocks for this, not an app. We have ideas, but can't know what will suit people best.

  6. @jens Btw, I am glad you are working on turning swords into ploughshares with your project.

I'm simply pointing out that the trends you are working against are part of a wide and ongoing conflict that is a natural consequence of the nature of the system.

  8. @jens re #interpeer : why don't include at least an oneliner about what channeler is? TBD isn't quite descriptive. Other components could use a "what this does" as well.

  10. I'm noticing similarities in what the #interpeer and #veilid projects are striving for. One key difference from my surface level inspection is the choice of C++ and Rust, respectively

  12. The Next Generation Internet funding, through organisations like NlNet, has been a boon to developers working on Free Code projects for decentralised social networks. Not only for the fediverse (ActivityPub etc), but also networks running on other protocols like XMPP (eg @snikket_im). Please consider signing the petition to keep it going, or of you're a citizen of an EU country, contract your political representatives and make sure they know why it's important.

  14. We're informally at the KIRA table at the #IETF118 hackathon. Come say hi :)

  15. At #IETF118 in Prague I'll be talking about distributed authorization via cryptographic capabilities, which is the theoretical underpinnings of CAProck.

This is going to happen in the Authentication and Authorization for Constrained Environments (ACE) working group on Friday the 10th of November, some time between 15:30 and 17:00.

  16. I've realized I'm not good at liveblogging impressions from #EmpoderaLIVE - it's too much, too fast. All I can say after the first day is that we're a room full of people wanting mostly the same thing, and we had to have an event like this to connect us.

It really goes to show that #HumanRights and #DigitalCitizenSovereignty are a great concern. As Philippe Page pointed out earlier, we're at an inflection point where we can collectively decide whether we want to continue with business as...

  19. It gives me great pleasure to announce that we're going to receive further funding from the #EuropeanCommission 's #NGI. This next work is going to focus on APIs for developers: we're going to provide SDKs for incorporating the wyrd #CRDT into apps.

This work is going to happen under #NGIAssure (assure.ngi.eu/)

  20. At the same time, #CivilSociety has consistently advised the #EuropeanCommission on the ineffectiveness of such measures to fight #CSAM / #CSEM. At the same time, known effective measures are desperately underfunded. Not only is #YlvaJohansson an enemy of #Democracy, she sets out to make children more vulnerable, the exact opposite of her claims.

    This proposal is disturbing throughout.

As near I can tell, a lot of us have a self identity in which we're not needing close relationships with others.

I suspect we misunderstand ourselves a whole lot.

  23. Improving Numerical Measures of Human Feelings: The Case of Pain d.repec.org/n?u=RePEc:lan:wpap
"… proposed and validated a new method to measure the experienced intensity of acute pain across individuals. This method proved to be overwhelmingly more accurate and sensitive than standard, established methods for experimentally-induced acute pain which are used in medical, clinical and research applications
… In the case of experienced pain intensity, the mechanism that enables the new #measurement method to excel might indeed be rooted in its well-calibrated scale: #money.
… Money-free standard methods ask people for numerical estimations of their experiences without a benchmark for the numerical scale, which might lead them to choose salient numbers or intermediate values.
… Monetary amounts provide interpersonally comparable references and thereby reduce the intrinsic subjectivity in pain measurements.
… The use of monetary incentives is unproblematic for those applications, as it is already common practice to reward participation in them"

  25. A joy to work with?

    This.

A colleague in Quality Assurance told me: "In all the years I've tested software—a job that, in essence, finds problems in the Development team's work or in the Product requirements—I'm proud to say I've never had a communication breakdown with any team member."
