I had the pleasure of attending the Bachman-Turner Overdrive concert at the Manchester UK Free Trade Hall in 1975 (OMG, was that really 50 years ago?) and was so pleased to find this more recent concert on YouTube:

The one-way charge for crossing Warburton Toll Bridge will increase from 12p to £1 from next week:

I very rarely use this bridge, but whenever I have, I've always been anxious about the safety of the bridge over the canal - it's a long way down! 😨 Still, putting up that charge is a good enough reason to avoid it if one can. I hope that they put up large signs at the approaches to the bridge to warn the unwary.

Out-of-office messages blaming Democrats for shutdown sent on behalf of some federal workers without their consent:
https://www.cnn.com/2025/10/02/politics/federal-workers-government-shutdown-emails-partisan
Firstly, let me say that I NEVER discuss politics on any online forum, and I won't be starting now!
I seem to recall that, when I was furloughed during COVID, my then employer added their own out-of-office (OOO) message, which I considered entirely reasonable.
For all emails sent out, there was always a company 'signature' added which was basically an advert for the company anyway.
If you're out of office (vacation, etc) would it be an idea to take responsibility away from the employee - instead have the company do the out-of-office message?

The owner of Port87 (Hunter Perrin) has uploaded a YouTube video:
'Email on your own domain is easy!'
This video includes the use of Port87 mail. This may be of interest to anyone considering using that service.
-
@sybrand People would have to resend their mail if they originally used the 'bare' address, but if they use the address with the additional label in the first place, they just click on the 'Verify Address' button in the Port87 auto-response email - they don't have to resend. In theory the 'bare' address isn't (or shouldn't be) given out to anyone.
-
@WildEnte I may not understand their system yet, but I think it's more complex than just plus-addressing, which is possible with many email providers. Whatever email address that's used, it has to be verified by that sender before the email goes through. It does seem to rely on that sender being 'human' to get a response. That wouldn't work for an automated email - for example, notifications of new posts from a forum. However, one can create a label that bypasses the need for verification.

@EMDiscussions No mention of Gandi? There's a surprise! Perhaps they'll do a list of the 10 worst! 🙄

Anyone here old enough to remember the song 'Venus', released by Shocking Blue in the Summer of 1969?
This popped up in YouTube this morning:
Much preferable to the Bananarama version!

I've also been trying Slovenia based Koofr, their servers are all located in Germany. Their UI is IMHO better than Filen, and is more configurable. And WebDAV just works. I've upgraded my account to 'Koofr 10GB' at EUR 4.92 per year. With the initial free 10GB I now have 20GB storage in total. I have no need for terrabytes of cloud storage, this is more than sufficient for my needs.

No soup for you, come back - 1 year!
Does this remind you of anybody in the news?

I was looking forward to watching this miniseries and finally got around to it this past weekend.
TBH I found it disappointing.
Granted the miniseries was only 6 episodes and so they had to cram a lot into those 6 episodes.
The book was 'of a time' and I would have preferred that the miniseries was set in that time, instead of modern day.

I'll never understand what possesses people to visit this place at Christmas, it's the same every year! Are they that desperate to buy over-priced tat? I live literally a 5 minute drive away from the Trafford Centre but I've not visited there for many YEARS!

Spectacular sunset lights up the skies around Manchester:
The photo 'Sunset over Irlam tonight' reminded me (for some very obscure reason) of the 1961 movie 'Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea':
