Participating in a future scanning session for the world of #ScholarlyPublishing and #ScholarlyResearch with a 5yr horizon. Have done my traditional 'it's #GoogleWave people! Pitch.
Interesting that #Balkanisation of knowledge is being muttered about.

Anybody have any insight into the effect of the #Solarstorm on the crew of #Artemis ? We appear to be having a G1/2 level storm right now. Yes I know they are on their way to the moon.
-
Never. Stop. Chasing! The #Aurora once again. Through the clouds in a gale! North Oxfordshire UK just a short while ago. This #SolarStorm is one for the books.
If you have clear(ish!) Skies get looking and good luck!
I need a coffee.

Here in the UK this #SolarStorm appears to have been stronger than the May 24 storm - itself the strongest storm since 2003. It will be interesting to see where it comes out. Wimipedia has a good list of solar storms. But no mistake, this is a big big storm.

Current polling in the constituancy gives the seat to Reform.
By absolute miles. Reform with an 80% chance of winning and Labour with a 17% chance. [Source The Rest is Politics Youtube channel post today]

I do not understand why senior Labour MPs didn't sit the PM down & say this:
"I can support you for no more than 12 months, with a stage gate at 6 months, unless you can turn the numbers around. If you want that support, let's sit down & work out a plan to make that happen'
Frankly it's PIP for the PM.
Maybe Burnham or whoever is popular with Labour members & MPs. Doesn't actually matter.
You win elections in this country by getting Non-party supporters in key locations to vote for you. -
And with really clear messaging on what the election is about.

Excellent approach. Now every scholarly publisher needs to do the same.

Because the UK sky gods continue to smile upon me, here’s some more #SeestarS50 #Astrophotography
This is NGC 3631, a ‘small’ spiral galaxy seen face on. You can find it in Ursa Major, and it’s an absolute gem.
An hour of imaging here. Noise reduction by Seestar, black point and definition tweaks by iOS. -
So just below M86 here is a wee smudge of pixels. They are vaguely pinkish (zoomed in here so the colour is an artefact).
Those pixels a PGC169281 a galaxy that is A) travelling away from us at 11% the speed of light & B) is 2 BILLION light years away!Blows my mind. Photons travelled for 2+ BILLION YEARS & then got captured by an image sensor. When they set off, life round these parts was basically unicellular. Incredible. The most distant object I've ever seen.
#Astrophotography #SeestarS50 -
Right then! For the first time this year basically I got a GOOD night of #Astronomy and #Astrophotography with the #SeestarS50. And it’s Galaxy Season. And I got the scope to do 20s subs with basically NO rejections. Truly the astronomy gods smiled upon me last night. So here’s a wee thread of the captured photons. For all bat two of these I watched the light come in as well. Old Skool me. 1/

‘I met a traveller from an antique land…’
This is #3I/Atlas imaged just a few mins ago in the pre dawn sky here in Oxfordshire UK. With my #Seestar50
It’s quite bright! Showed up immediately on the screen.
I’ve only gone and captured an interstellar comet! @&*!@#£!!!

This is a really fascinating paper on a systematic search for #DysonSpheres using the large galaxy survey data thats available. The results are very interesting indeed. #Astronomy No it's not proof of advanced Alien civilisations. But it looks like a neat bit of survey work at least to these layperson eyes.

Marching On Together! #LeedsUnited are assured of another season of premiership footy. And Spurs still can't win at home in their fancypants stadium.😅🤣😂🤣😅😂😂😅🤣
I really hope they go down.

#Noctilucent #Cloud display really getting going. One of the best I've seen. Clouds stretching almost to the west. #Astrophotography

Beautiful #Noctilucent #Cloud display this evening. Visible from all of UK I'd imagine. #Astrophotography

But what was missing from this utterly shambolic presentation of this new bit of technology, was any sort of explanation as to WHY any of this is of interest or compelling in any way.
At this point I shall divert to my experience of the tech, for I am an owner of #MetaQuestPro headset. From that there eBay at about a 3rd of the original list price. It’s… interesting. It’s also half finished. At they’ve spent what? 10 Billion on this #metaverse malarkey?
-
Anyhoo, he was there to announce the launch of the #MetaQuest3 their 3rd iteration of their #vr / #metaverse headset. It’s a headset. It is much bettererer than the #Quest2 in a number of not particularly well articulated ways. It’s got slightly better screens (but no actual specs there) and it’s got a newer chip to power it (not exactly overwhelming) and it’s got the pancake lenses from the #MetaQuestPro - at least that’s the implication.

Over here in the Uk, we ha e the #AI summit at #Bletchley Park finishing up as the #CovidInquiry continues. The same government in charge. So worth pondering the fact that The Uk Govt was convinced that Covid would be solved by #herd_immunity That's working out just splendidly isn't it. If authority is to be lisyened to, it's important that it can demonstrate it's seriousness.

Buy their properties at a loss. Best when the NonDom's are unaware of the sale.
A banker can leave, deposits stay. Turn bank into credit union.
Car maker leaves, car making stays. Landlord leaves, homes stay. Grocer billionaire leaves, farms stay.
Britain's have to stop being slaves and never just sing about it.

MAHOOSIVE #geomagnetic #SolarStorm going on - stronger than last night. And here at 51 degs north its windy and wet. Bugger.
Last night there was a very annoying high haze which meant i got a vague purpleish sky to the north at best.
Damn

Ok first bit of my attempt to image Markarian’s Chain in the ole #SeestarS50
There’s about 8 Galaxies visible in this shot. Including ngc4477 and ngc 4473
This is about 10 mins of stacked shots, basically straight off the sensor, just AI denoising applied.
Next section being captured now. Will probably post that then leave the scope to it (early start tomorrow)

Right then fellow Mastodonians of The United Kingdom
I just completed "The National Conversation" to share my views on what it's really like living in our area right now. It's a major UK-wide project by researchers at Oxford University.
It's a thought provoking set of questions. If you are interested, please do fill it in for your neck of this sceptered isle.
And maybe give it a boost into your network as well.
