Looks like the eclipse won't be great for the US tonight (throw back below to last years) but other areas of the world can still get a show : https://www.space.com/stargazing/lunar-eclipses/what-time-is-the-blood-moon-total-lunar-eclipse-on-march-3

‘I met a traveller from an antique land…’
This is #3I/Atlas imaged just a few mins ago in the pre dawn sky here in Oxfordshire UK. With my #Seestar50
It’s quite bright! Showed up immediately on the screen.
I’ve only gone and captured an interstellar comet! @&*!@#£!!!

Trying out the new Siril script for Seestar mosaics. Not much data (only two rather short nights 🤷♂️) so rather noisy, but enough to get a decent grasp of what it can do…

#tsuchinshan_atlas gibt heute bei mir seine Abschlussvorstellung. Das kleine #Seestar50 ist einfach nicht für solche Widefield Objekte geeignet.

After several attempts but non-success, last night I drove out to mountains to have dinner with friends, where a brief 15 minute window of opportunity to finally capture it emerged.
Was FINALLY able to get ~2 mins of data, but finally saw C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS).
We had only about 15 mins before the sky was dark enough after sunset to get set up and capture comet photons.
It was brief, but it was beautiful. For the first time, I saw a comet with my eyes through binocs (as opposed to a screen). Venus looked marvellous as well.
Have also included an annotated diagram merging the wide-angle shot taken with the DSLR and the more zoomed-in version captured with Seestar S50.
Comets are trolls but they are neat when you see them! 😍
I was about to give up on this with the clouds. Thankful for that small window of opportunity!

Cosmic fruits from last night’s #astrophotography session. The great nebulae of the Milky Way hang high in our winter sky.
1. Lagoon Nebula
2. Triffid Nebula
3. Eagle Nebula (+ Pillars of Creation)
4. Fighting Dragons of AraThe central regions of the nebulae, show the massive hot stars that create all that ionizing radiation that causes the hydrogen to emit that reddish colour, whilst carving out cavities in the cloud. Physics in action!
Seestar S50 captures from my backyard last night, all under 1 hour integration time.
