Curiosity spots distant honeycombs.
Mars Guy: Episode 221.
The Curiosity rover carries a small telescope that can provide close-up views of places it will never reach. Recently its color camera viewed distant layered rocks that look interesting, but through its telescope they’re truly anomalous.

Perseverance Views Deimos Before Sunrise: The rover captured this view of Deimos, the smaller of Mars' two moons, shining in the sky at 4:27 a.m. local time on March 1, 2025, (Sol 1433), in the dark before dawn, the rover's left navigation camera used its maximum long-exposure time of 3.28 seconds for each of 16 individual shots. In total, the image represents an exposure time of about 52 seconds. Regulus and Algieba are also seen.

@65dBnoise IIRC I was once informed that #MRN was what was expected, and that it was not 'actual' data... 🥴
As for the regular updates I hope that whoever is preventing them from being generated / released gets posted to a different job in another department as far away from M20 as physically possible ;)

Then & Now on Mars:
Images acquired 13 years apart feature Curiosity rover's MAHLI camera with its lens cap fully closed. The first image was taken just 32 Sols after landing in 2012, the second image was taken a few days ago on Sol 4,656 (September 11, 2025.
13 years of dust accumulation may appear bad, but the camera is still acquiring beautiful close-up images on Mars.#Curiosity #MSL #MarsRover #NASA #Science #Space #Exploration #Solarocks #Mars #ThenAndNow #13years

So about 550 personnel will be let go. That is soo sad. Stop the #Shutdown. Open the government. -
@tom30519 Maybe @PaulHammond51 was right: it could be waiting at the deli below for #Ingy to come closer, while having a full breakfast with local bacon n'eggs n'hashbrowns n'all 😋

Mars Rocks!
These are from Gale crater, snapped by Curiosity rover on August 18, 2023 (Sol 3921) using its 100mm mast camera. Each of the processed mosaics are assembled from overlapping Bayer reconstructed frames and document a new region that is thought to contain some materials that have been washed down from Gediz Vallis. 😲
They need a quick forward-reverse routine. If the drill speaks G-code, then something like M03, M04, or maybe try peck drilling with, say, G73? 🤓 🙃 -
As we close in on Curiosity Rover's 'Landiversary' I feel it is a good time to share one of my favourite images from its mission on Mars. This mid-afternoon mast camera (R-MastCam) image features a distant section of the inner rim wall of Gale earlier during mission, this was back on sol 1309, April 16, 2016. Curiosity Mars rover used LED lights on the end of its robotic arm to create this rare nighttime view of the Red Planet’s surface on December 6, 2025, the 4,740th Martian day, or sol, of the rover’s mission.

A small selection of overlapping MAHLI images from sol 4750 (December 17, 2025) assembled in MS-ICE of an interesting feature in Curiosity rover's current workspace.
Additional focus stacked images are likely still on the rover, but I think these few cover the most interesting part of the target.

Any idea where JPL have moved the Mars mission maps to? The old URL for M20 and MSL are broken. They have just reformatted a number of mission pages (raw images, home pages etc), but I cant find the new URLs for the maps...

Margin’ up the Crater Rim!
To conclude its exploration of the mysterious margin unit before it ascends the rim of Jezero Crater, Perseverance made one last stop this past week to investigate these strange rocks at “Eremita Mesa.” Read the new blog on this link https://science.nasa.gov/blog/margin-up-the-crater-rim/

Meanwhile on Mars: An uphill drive lasting ~67 minutes for Perseverance rover during mission Sol 1661 (October 22, 2025). The distance was ~44 meters due north, climbing ~9.2 meters, with an end-of-drive tilt of 18.7°.
Attached is a processed rear HazCam image looking downslope at its wheel tracks, the drive data, and screen captures of the updated mission map (with scale bars).
