Mars rover Perseverance sent what appears to be "parts inspection" type images yesterday.
These two objects are part of the Scanning Habitable Environments with Raman & Luminescence for Organics & Chemicals (SHERLOC) instrument, mounted at the end of robotic arm. SHERLOC uses a UV laser and spectrometer to measure Raman scattering which helps determine fine-scale mineralogy and organic compounds in Martian rocks.
