💁🏻‍♀️ TIL: 🕷️🪐 #Spider-like channels etch #Mars’ southern hemisphere, carved by seasonal #CO2 ice that sublimes under #spring sunlight, building gas pressure until it cracks the ground and jets dust.

Lab #experiments at #NASA’s #JPL, in a liquid-nitrogen chamber called DUSTIE, recreated that process. A follow-up showed soil grain size and #water content shape how these features form, and they may hint at Mars’ warmer, wetter past.

Rocket Boffins@ NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory recently fired up a magnetoplasmadynamic (MPD) thruster (aka "electric thruster") that runs on lithium metal vapor.
