  11. I'm very thankful to the astronauts on the International Space Station for taking a series of photos of Chennai, India for me.

They used the lens I requested, but the longest exposure time they used was ~0.07 s, when I really need them to take a much longer exposure time (like 1s second).

I can totally imagine what's happening when the astronaut sees my request... "One second? That doesn't make sense, the image would overexposed and blurry. That can't be what they meant, but I'll take some good images for them with shorter exposure times." 🙃

Rinse and repeat... Anyway, it's always helpful to get images like this, and 0.07 s is the longest they've taken for me yet, so we'll see if we can do something with it!

  12. [Edit: Solved! Thanks @ai6yr, @headfirstonly, and @pmisson! I had thought the ISS was too far inland for it to be the coast.]

Dear Hive Mind: This photo shows two cities in India, but I don't know which they are. I would like to know out which they are so that I can figure out what all the bright dots in the image are. The original image (with much higher resolution) is here: eol.jsc.nasa.gov/SearchPhotos/

I am not sure which way is North, the image may be rotated. Are any of you familiar enough with Indian cities to work it out?

The #InternationalSpaceStation was over 18.9° N, 76.9° E when the photo was taken, but it is probably not taken directly downward.

  13. WOW! An astronaut on the #InternationalSpaceStation captured a photo of the last rays of sun hitting a tall mountain in the #Himalayas

(I've adjusted the contrast to show more detail in the parts that aren't directly lit by the sun. Original here: eol.jsc.nasa.gov/SearchPhotos/)

  18. Wow! It's so hard to believe, but 4 years ago today, yours truly became a ham'!
It's insain to think about the number of incredible people I've met along this journey, including some, who have sadly become silent keys. Ham radio is the world's greatest hobby for good reason. It allows licensees to communicate with one another, whether they're in your own backyard or across the globe, in another country. I've also heard of people using the service in emergencies as well as to talk to people aboard the #InternationalSpaceStation, which is certainly on my bucket list. As I type this reflective message, I'm in the process of studying for my #GeneralLicense.
    Thanks & 73.
I hope to hear you on-air soon!

PS: Quick tip: CW will get through when nothing else, including voice will, so it's on my bucket list to learn that too.#HamRadio, #EmmergencyCommunications, #GlobalCommunication, #CW

  23. 3 satellite QSOs via the International Space Station

Satellite hunting on Regent's Canal, with a nice coffee while reading my book. Another successful day hunting satellites today. This time I managed 3 QSOs via the International Space Station, ISS. Thanks to MM9SQL (Peter, the developer of Cloudlog), G0BIH, and PD1B. Thanks all, 73s.
