@ukuku This isn’t exactly as big a shift as the #NeueKlasse in my view. It still has one of the aspects of modern EV’s that I don’t like: the very high window line — probaby because of the size of the battery pack underneath. This is true of almost every EV available today, but not the Neue Klasse.
The light fitments featuring the star design strike me as very much a gimmick, but overall, the design of both the BMW and Mercedes-Benz make Tesla designs look barebones.

@DenOfEarth Didn’t the #RAV4 of the same era achieve a similar distinction? I remember accompanying friends to test drive one in Virginia twenty years ago, and it even had a warning on the visor (or above it) about an increased risk of rollover. 🤷♂️

Ladies and Gentlemen of the #WierdCar Fediiverse, just now I received a notification that @AgentSmith was here among us. He is a true pillar of the Weird Car community over on the 🐦 💩. I believe he still owns a #CitroënXM that he willfully drives over bumpy roads in the #Belfast area of No’rn Ir’n, as well as other vehicles. I have know him to perform surgery on a 500,000 mile #CitroënPicasso if I am not mistaken, to help out a fellow Weird Car aficionado.
He also likes #Volvo.

@makesubarugayagain everyone’s complaining about BMW, but having seen both multiple times now, these are the ugliest grilles on any vehicle out there, including the #Tundra the #RAV4 and almost every other #Toyota.
These stand out in a bad way, but for me personally, the #BMWiX and #BMWi4 actually stand out in a good way. They differentiate themselves without being offensive, but it’s JMO.
Saw my first #BMWXM too, and didn’t dislike that either. 🤷♂️

@ukuku . Similarly #Stellantis is now led by #CarlosTavares, former CEO of #PSA. #Peugeot #Citroën and #DS are all offering designs that would be unexpected in the 🇺🇸. Blurring the lines between SUV, crossover and fastback station wagon designs.
He even made GM’s old European operation profitable after 100 years of losses — while promising properly affordable EV’s. We just don’t get this kind of approach on this side of the Atlantic.

@ukuku Luca de Meo seems to be doing great things at #Renault in the post #CarlosGhosn era.
The #R5 was an overlooked superstar when it was in production, but the new design is showing just how extraordinary it really was compared to almost everything else at the time.

@motoringpodcast @DazzlingDamo I’m not convinced that it’s possible to operate at those levels in the corporate world without some grey areas. Who really keeps ALL of their receipts for the tax service of their country? Who really expects to escape a tax audit unscathed? Is that even possible?!
So this raises the possibility that #Ghosn may have been a victim, even if he doesn’t have all of the “receipts” for his activities.

@geekygearhead great to know that BMW haven’t given up on the #Mini like #VW gave up on the #NewBeetle.
I don’t think I’ll ever buy one, and they don’t seem to have had that much success over the years, but they are certainly “different”, and isn’t that a good thing?

@Dylan I will reserve judgment until I see one IRL, which, as @slirt knows, in our area, won’t take long when the deliveries start.
The #RivianR1T (for example) is actually not very big. It has quite a low profile. More Honda Ridgeline than F150. Probably a necessity for aerodynamics, handling and range. 🤷♂️
The #FordLightning looks more like a traditional truck, with a few nods to its high tech aspirations (mostly lighting).
