Hello Mastodon #WeirdCar people.
I went to the UPS store today, and a very nice young man — polite, well-dressed and well spoken — accosted me, and asked “is that a Mercedes-Benz with a Tesla drivetrain?”.
Well yes! Why yes it is!
“Those are super rare!”
Why yes! Yes they are! About 3,500 sold in all of the USA, or something like that.
We chatted for a few minutes, and it was lovely.

@serichards @richardknott The Zoe also looked like it was made of Tupperware plastic to me, but I never sat or rode in one… 🤷♂️

So, following yesterday’s mishap with the cruel assassination of my beloved vehicle (okay, maybe beloved is a bit strong, but you get the idea), I had to fill out a form for the insurance company for a premium adjustment that was already underway. I think this part of the form makes Kris and I look rather good, especially that last line.
💪 😉 ✌️
* For V2 & V3, the year is the “model year”. They are both actually one year older, so 2006 and 2007.

@dan I can smell that! 😂
Wheel cleaner mousse. Works very well, but it does go straight up your nose. 😬

@serichards This should be mandatory watching for #WeirdCar aficionados.
#HubNut is such a down to earth guy that it makes his enthusiasm even more infectious.
Some criticized the #AlpineA110 for costing as much as a Corvette, but look at the fuel economy! 😮
Also, the same performance as the equally lust worthy and economical #BMWi8, but at one third of the price. 🤯
I’ve seen it in real life. The video cannot do it justice. It is superb.

🚨 HELP! 🚨
Traveling to Europe again. There are some good EV rental options. But…
There’s an app that Martin from #WiselyAutomotive in London 🇬🇧 recommends for finding chargers on the European mainland.
Does anyone know what it is? I don’t have time to rewatch all his YouTube videos to find it. 😑

@Basmitharts really depends on what you compare it to, and what the intended usage is… half the price of a Range Rover, but at least half the luxury too. 🤷♂️

@chromblitzen great car chase in this short clip, with lots of vintage automobiles! 😁

@BitchinRob @lionelb I somewhat approved of the retro design of the #PTCruiser and the #ChevroletHHR initially.
Then, sadly, I rented each of them seperately for a few days. Someone even stopped in a parking lot, sporting a huge grin of delight, to ask us if the HHR was any good.
Compared to the 2003 VW Golf we owned at the time they were truly horrendous little cars in every way possible. At least, that was my assessment.

@serichards what struck you as patchy?
The center console cover looks like it could do with some attention, and the phone equipment is obsolete. Could probably be removed. Seats seem to be in very good condition for the age and mileage. The navigation is probably worthless (unless it has TMC capability) and the maps are probably frozen in time, unless Audi do a better job than Mercedes-Benz for vehicles of this age.

@serichards you forgot to specify that the interior is even better than the exterior! 🤩
Fabulous yellow leather that’s tastefully done, with a black dashboard and other trim areas. 🤯

Furthermore,
The car was previously auctioned in October 2023 with a reserve price that was NOT met. The highest bidder was $7K.
What’s interesting to note from a buyer or seller POV is that the auction with reserve had 8,800 views attracting 19 bids.
This no reserve auction has gained 42,000 views and counting, but only 9 bids so far. 😱
I’m expecting a flurry of bids in the last five minutes. 🧐

@DenOfEarth @vinc @slirt the newer Citroëns (after the BX basically, so starting with the Xantia from 1992, I think) did not drop to the ground when turned off, or settle overnight. However, you could still intentionally drop them to the ground with the height control lever. 😜
Changing a wheel on a hydropneumatic car should be a #WeirdCar bucket list item #LifeGoal — which I sorely regret not completing! 😂
*the car does most of the lifting, so you don’t have to.

@Tiezep I’ve driven one for quite a few miles over several days, including 80 mph (in 🇫🇷 where legal).
They’re not bad at all. The one I borrowed had semi-automatic climate control and a semi-automatic transmission whereby there is NO clutch, but you had to hold the gear lever and push it manually from 1 through 5 & reverse. The clutch is automatic, based on holding the gear knob or something. 😂

#WeirdCarMastodon #WeirdCar #carspotting #car
Found a nice early (black bumper) #PTCruiser @ Morrisons supermarket #today
Made me happy to see one out and about, seemingly in good health 🤣As it drove away it just looks so much smaller than it did back in the early 2Ks because everything else around it now is huge.
